1620 Buffer fluctuating -- Normal?

When burning, whether at 8X, 12X, or 16X… my buffer fluctuates from 85-90-95 constantly(never goes below 85). I’m not having any problems. My Kprobe scans and CD Speed scans are excellent. But I was wondering if anyone else’s drive does that? I’ve never had a drive do this, and none of my other drives on this machine do this. The other drive’s buffers are always 100%. This particular machine is “tweaked” for burning, and has no antivirus, zero apps in the background, no screensaver, no power management, etc… DMA is all setup correctly, the drive is master and is the only device on Primary.

It does it in an almost rythmic fashion and is ALWAYS the exact same as far as percentage’s and the rate at which it changes. I’ve probably burned at least 30 discs with this drive, and it has never changed. Just curious if anyone else’s does this.

Just got mine the other night mine does it to. So i assume it’s normal.

my 2 1620 drives do the same…odd though because my plextor 708a the buffer never fluctuates…it’s always at 92…the burns from my other dvd burners are all fine…

Its the write calibration systems working, it’s normal and probably why you’ll usually get a great burn out of that drive.

#5

Ok… good. I figured it was alright. Glad to see mine isn’t the only one.

#6

Might be that your Plextor has 8 mb buffer and the BenQ has 2 mb buffer? Not sure but just guessing. My BenQ drops to 89 and goes back up to 98.

In nero 63125…I see fluctuations when burning from 75%-98%…with some media I have had it drop to 30%

In dvd decrypter seems to run at 85%-90%

#8

my new 1620Pro dropes to 7% and the read buffer drops too almost to zero
is it normal?

#9

7% and almost 0 read buffer? Don’t think that’s normal. Check your burst rate.
