13y Old CD-R Scan

the oldest cd-r’s i still have are dated 1997 on the back (verbatim 2x 74min/650MB) but i only have 3 of these left and i probably bought these disc sometime in 1998 or so … but my BEST cd-r’s i have are “Mitsui 24x rated 80min/700MB” ones which i still have 90+ discs left those discs are nice since there coated with a plastic of some sort over the top of the disc so it provides a nice protective layer against damage vs standard cd-r’s which dont have this.

i got those Mitsui discs from ebay back in around 2001-ish for 50 dollars … i only use them for long term storage of my family pictures etc… not for general use since there supposedly quality discs.

but it’s cool to see some of u really old school guys on here from 1996 and older making cd’s… ouch, those disc must have costed a arm and a leg at the time… cause at the time i got my first cd burner in 1998 cd’s where just starting to become affordable although still fairly pricey at about 1 dollar a cd-r… so in 1996 or older u guys had to be playing several dollars per cd-r which is way to much for my blood.

NBR: Here in EMEA there’s still Verbatim Super Azo + Crystal, with a top protective layer for scratch resistance.
I still have 50 of the Made in China discs left, as they give better results than the Made in India ones (this experience correlates with other users’ experiences).

I found some more older CD-R’s.

This one is a KingPro Professional 700mb up to 32x it’s not that
old but I though the media code was interesting, never seen it before.

Here is a Verbatim Valulife 650MB from 1999, it was really scratched up I am
surprised it scanned as well as it did. I have no idea what burner
I burned it on.

You locked the C1 scale at 20 max even though the maximum C1 value reported is 49!

MegaDETH: Please resize the scale.
I have seen a few MMM&M discs, one EMTEC “Extra Performance” 48x (unburned) is in my collection, given to me by a friend. Phthalocyanine.
MMM&M actually only makes plants, not discs, so this ATIP is as worthless (or informationless) as a Plasmon ATIP would be.

haha sorry most of my media is good so I don’t have to change the scale, I forgot lol.

I would rescan it for you but I just took it out with the trash :frowning:

Was that double “&” and the typo (“Machinary”) actually reported by CD-DVD Speed?!

That double && is intentional!
For example, if a button in a window should say Apply, it will be &Apply in the code. And if & actually should be displayed in a button, it is && in the code.
Sadly Erik hasn’t considered the Copy

But it seems that Machinary is part of the official name!

It’s funny because at the time (before I knew about scanning) I thought these disks are
total crap because they would only burn at a much slower speed than my other media.

Still I wish I had some left.

Ah thanks evilboy - never came across them before, so I did wonder.

/me sends them an English dictionary to help with their spelin

Well, as this is a SA (Societé Anonyme) I guess it is from a French-speaking country (France, Switzerland, Belgium…). But not really sure, they don’t even seem to have a website.

EDIT: They are from Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. I guess that the company may be defunct now because they don’t have a website…

Here is what mine look like, one part you can’t read says up to 32x.

100k so I am linking it.

Hehe, pretty disc!
