115d+sony16d1=4x?!

Why is this doing this?

I got a new spindle of Sony Accucore DVD-R (Malaysia) from BJ’s, and when I load them up in Imgburn:
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-115D 1.22 (SCSI)
Current Profile: DVD-R

Disc Information:
Status: Empty
State of Last Session: Empty
Erasable: No
Free Sectors: 2,297,888
Free Space: 4,706,074,624 bytes
Free Time: 510:40:38 (MM:SS:FF)
Next Writable Address: 0
Supported Write Speeds: 1x, 2x, 4x

Pre-recorded Information:
Manufacturer ID: SONY16D1

And yes, it only burns at 4X. The drive had 1.18 FW, updating to 1.22 made no difference. It does it every time, it’s not a read error, and my other blanks still work correctly.

What’s up? Did Sony change the media code somehow? Can it be fixed with MediaCodeSpeedEdit?

Hi,
You’re not alone with this problem.
Only a few of my 100 discs were recognised as 4x burnable.
The other discs were recognised as 16x without any problems.

Maybe the mediacode is a little bit different?

The FULL MID counts, not just the first digits!

That’s what I thought, but replacing the SONY16D1 MID block in MCSE with one copied from the disc doesn’t fix the problem. Any suggestions?
