Edit:
I don’t believe the “D” has RAM writing.

Correct, the 112d does not have dvdram writting.
Correct, the 112d does not have dvdram writting.
but if you load 112d 8.25 firmware into mcse it has writing strategies for dvd-ram?? I know there is a difference in 1.24 but 8.25 I can’t find a difference

Hi,

MCSE reveals DVD-RAM write strategies also for 112D 1.24
Possibly they disabled DVD-RAM write support at another place in the firmware.

Thanks a lot I didn't check that that answered my question, so the japanese model has both ram & non-ramwriting drive versions. :iagree:

A 112D is no “japanese model”.

Then what is the difference between 112D 1.24 (MCSE bitsetting) & 112D 8.25??

8.xx firmware is for pioneer 112 series sold under the buffalo brand in Japan. 8.xx is a firmware customized by Pioneer for Buffalo. The hardware for these drives is the same as all other 112 series drives (A12 is a bit different though).
There are 4 models in the 112 series. A12/112/112D and 112L. 112 has DVD-RAM read/write while 112D only has -RAM read. 112L has LF and DVD-RAM read/write function. A12 is Pioneer retail drive with special features as support for quiet drive utility, special design and support for LF and DVD-RAM read/write.

Why not just buy another one then you can have both a 112D & 112L
