110D and Memorex (RICOHJPN-R03-004 )

hey i’ve got my 110D with firmware 1.22, got these supposedly 16x dvd+r from memorex… but when I try to burn the disc the only options i get are 2-4-8-12 and no 16. I’m pretty new to this dvd burning stuff so i’m just asking if anyone knows if this problem is quite common or if i can change something to be able to burn at 16x?

thanks for the help and info!

Memorex is no quality media.

Hi, 12x is the max write speed supported in 1.22 stock firmware for this media id, you can change the write strategy of this media to another media id that is supported to burn at 16x with ala42’s MediacodeSpeedEdit tool. For more detailed info see the MediacodeSpeedEdit support for Pioneer dvd writers thread.

thansk so much for the update, i will take a look at that thread now :stuck_out_tongue:

yeah i agree that memorex is crap, but bestbuy had a deal which gave me 50-pack for $19.07

Crap media is like a cheep screwdriver no matter how good the deal it is NO deal if it will not do the job

That’s exactly what I thought.

Look, I don’t know where this idea that all Memorex media is “crap” originated, but here’s how RICOHJPN R03 looks when it’s been burned in a drive that has the right strategy for it.

No one here said that all from them is crap, but most of all from them is crap media.

The lack of a 16x writing strategy for RICOHJPN R03 in a Pioneer drive has nothing to do with the quality of Memorex media.

Speaking of all and most, Memorex media is made by Ritek (see above), Prodisc, MBI, and CMC (see below). If any of this is “crap,” bring it on!

Word.

well… partially agree… as ur results might be only an indication of a good burner… not a good disc… make ur scans 3weeks later… and give us the results…:cop:

Memorex is not necessarily “bad” but more of un-trustworthy… they keep on using different manu’s and range between some good suppliers and bad ones… like!! who the hell said that Ritek DVDs are anygood?.. well… ok… CMC are “not bad”

i wish i could have this Melody 8x DVD-R GSC003 (Gigastorage) disc scan… burned using my LG GSA-4163b 2weeks ago… it was nearing perfection… but today i tried to extract some s**t from the disc… total crap… it’s nearing my a%%…:a

i didnt try any memorex yet… but trust me… i’m not planning to try any in the future… unless they stop switching manufacturers… it’s not logic to keep a copy of CD-Speed with u wherever u go… so u might know what ADIP is it b4 u buy!!!:iagree:

The scans above from burns by three different drives, I must be mighty lucky to have three exceptionally good drives out of three.

Anyway, to show you how the media aged. A couple of scans from then and now.

#1 is a Memorex 8x -R CMC MAG. AE1 disc burned eight months ago. First scan - immediately after the burn, second scan - today.

#2 is a Memorex 8x +R MBIPG101 R04 disc burned four months ago. First scan - immediately after the burn, second scan - today.

i think u could read my post to the last word :stuck_out_tongue:
though the burns are exceptionally good… but still… i don’t really trust them… sticking to my Verbatims

Hi Guys, about the various media you have been discussing I have had the following experience over the last 3 years: with an NEC 1300A and a Pioneer DVR-108 all with the latest firmware (also tried some hacked firmware) I was buying the label Platinum for quite a while because it burnt flawlessly, and I still have some DVD’s I burnt 3 years ago that play without so much as a hicup on my Philips standalone. Up untill 1 year ago the platinum media was according to nero info tool always Ricoh, then just after that CMC-MAG but both my drives had no problem burning them at the correct speed however about 4 or 5 months ago they changed manurfacturer to Ritek after which my NEC wouldn’t even recognise that there was a disc in the drive let alone burn them, my Pioneer however recognised them and offered to burn these 16X DVD +R at the highest speed of 4X. Since a week or or so I purchased a Lite-On LH-20A1H burner which cost me less than half the price of the 2 previous burners, and to my delight it recognises the Retard, sorry Ritek DVD’s and can deliver a reasonable burn at 8X I tried 16X but got coasters it also recognises and burns almost anythging you can throw at it, cheap lousy media to Verbatim (Mitsubishi) Yuden (which really will burn at 16X without coasters) etc, it comes with a program that checks with an online database to find the best writing strategy or can also make an individual test scan before writing each individual disc, and I payed just €29.50 OEM which despite no Beautiful cardboard box still came with a free copy of nero 7 essentials. For that price for a dual layer 20X -+ burner that will also write Dvd-Ram discs I think you can’t go wrong.

Platinum is like Infinity and Memorex.

The always change their disc sources, so the results do too.
