Optiarc AD-7170S & Maxell 16x DVD+R ?!?

NEC / Optiarc Writer Discuss, Optiarc AD-7170S & Maxell 16x DVD+R ?!? at CD, DVD and Blu-ray Writers forum; Is this drive have compatibility problems with maxell discs? Because all the maxell discs that I burned with this drive have an exactly the same graphic like each other; pi failures going crazy @ 0.5 point and then going down... I tried few other discs including Verbatim and there was

    I tried few other discs including Verbatim and there was no problem (verbatim is the king of course),

    btw I tried that maxell discs on my NEC4570 and 3500 too and there was no problem.

    You should try to make a scan at 5x speed which is recommended for NEC/Optiaric drives and these drives are not reliable scanners.

    I tried it on another drive allready... Tried it with my NEC4570-3500 and the result was the same.

    But when I burn the same disc with my 4570 and 3500 @ 16x and then scan it @max speed on 7170; there is no problem... Only problem is when I write it with 7170.

    BTW my another problem is that I can't flash modified firmwares on my 7170 drive, only original fws... It says "error sending fw to drive"... I think my disc problem's reason is the fw (1.02) and can be resolved by flashing another fw but I can't...

    Tried and none of them worked. BTW my drive is SATA, not PATA

    I don't think your OS is causing the trouble. It will probably be either the SATA chipset or the chipset drivers

    Hmm.. I have Asus A8N-SLI Premium mainboard and using silicon image sata controllers. Maybe trying nvidia controller will solve the problem?
