    Hi!
I know you explicitly wrote a speed reduced firmware. However, I'm looking for a RPC-1 only patch. The only ones I can find are based on an old firmware version. So i was wondering, if you could help me in identifying the RPC specific part in the firmware. Then I'd be able to make a RPC-1 only patched firmware.

What I did so far was to compare the original Samsung firmware with your patched version. Here are my guesses what the changes actually do.

    Code:
    Address: Orig Patched Guess
    0x00023672 0x08 0x04 speed
    0x00027566 0x20 0x08 speed
    0x0002756A 0x30 0x08 speed
    0x0002758C 0x06 0x04 speed
    0x00027590 0x10 0x04 speed
    0x000275A9 0x06 0x04 speed
    0x000275AD 0x08 0x04 speed
    0x000275C6 0x06 0x04 speed
    0x000275CA 0x08 0x04 speed
    0x000275D1 0x06 0x04 speed
    0x000275DC 0x05 0x04 speed
    0x000275F9 0x08 0x04 speed
    0x00027612 0x06 0x04 speed
    0x00027616 0x08 0x04 speed

    0x000320AF 0x60 0x80 rpc
    0x00032AB7 0x70 0x80 rpc
    0x00034FC1 0xBF 0x00 rpc
    0x00034FC2 0x06 0x80 rpc

Please let me know if I'm wrong, or if I have to change additional elements (i.e in order to satisfy checksumming, etc)

    Thanks in advance!

    You guessed right
The last four patches are for RPC-1. No need to correct any checksums on this drive.

Thanks a lot for your immediate answer! I gave it a try and changed the values which were identified as RPC related. So far everything seems to work fine.

Do you have any additional information related to the speed parameters? I'd like to know what particular function the offsets have.

I'd have to look over the firmware again but I remember that you only need to change 4 values to slow down the drive for CD and DVD. Just patched everything to be sure the drive doesn't spin up when weird media is used
Basically there's a media code 4?-Bytes before the actual speedpatch. Some parts are equal for all DVD and CD media the other refer to the exact type.
I'll write down a list which offset controls the speed for the exact media type when I find the time.

Does this firmware works on The Samsung SH-D162D Drive? since the only difference seams to be The IDE/SATA Interface.

And i was looking for The Low noise SB02 firmware for The Samsung SH-D162D Drive

No. You might render your drive useless forever.

I'll do that sometime next week. Should be a pretty easy patch but I have to take my HTPC apart to get a drive for testing

I would patch my D163C drive. Could you show me any hints to do so?
