Silent Hill 2 PC Protection scheme

Uh, not really sure where to put this, so feel free to move this to the appropriate forum please.

I just want to ask, does anyone know what protection scheme Silent Hill 2 PC uses? Clony can't detect it, and I was wondering if there's any other protection scanner that might be able to detect it.

Securom? That's strange, because YAPS doesn't detect it.

How did you determine it?

I don't know of any method to detect securom right off the cd.
so hex edit executable, and search for last instance of 'AddD', case sensitive, version number is a few bytes after.

what version of SecuROM does it use?
and is it just the 1st disc that has the protection?
i just made a backup of disc 1 and it works perfect. (are you sure it needs a BWA or MDS file?)
i used my Plex 24x and CloneCD 3.3.4.1 to back it up.
might be that North American version uses older version of SecuROM or has no protection, don't know though.

The SecuROM ver is 4.83.55.0012 in the cdz I have

It didn't work to me with CloneCd an my LG.

1. protection is only on the play disk (disk one) other two are plain data disks

2. it SecuRom 4.84.55.0144 on my imported american version

3. accel7 -> yes you need a mds or bwa file if you want to make a back-up that will be authorized by the game.

4. clonecd cant back-up the newest securom protections on his own, it needs the help of twinsectors.

ya its wierd Maelstrom.
i know CloneCD can't make perfected backups of SecuROM 4.8
tried copying Unreal Tournament 2003 and NOLF2 and no luck, finally use Blindwrite and got working backups of those games using BWA files.
whats wierd with Silent Hill 2 is that CloneCD copyed it perfect from what i can tell, installs and plays the backup exactly like the original.
i'm just wondering if i got lucky copying it or if it doesn't use SecuROM 4.8

differernt countries got different versions of protections for the same game.
so it is possible that your version isnt protected with the newest securom 4.8 and so you'll be able to back it up using almost every program as long as it reads and writes subchannel data.
i got a version with the newer securom and is a no go without a mds or bwa file.
