There is no problem. But I have to wait until this evening or tomorrow to try because now I am at work

A dead drive is better than a slow one...

    Looks good; many thanks!

One question: what is the purpose of saving the Flash ID size? Where is this data saved?

It's saved in an INI file in the same folder as the EXE file and with the same name as the EXE file. It's only needed if the read size displayed (drop down list) is wrong and allows you to override the calculated size.

^ It would depending on the version you have. The latest version has a new flash engine that supports more drive models.

Your drive is reporting a strange flash ID. 1c 31 00 09 is an old product ID that did not have this type of flash chip.

Does the LiteOn firmware flasher work with your drive:

pharao11, your DVD-ROM drive appear to use a new flash method that is not currently supported by the flash utility. This may be supported in the future but currently only DVD-ROM drives use this method, so I'm sorry, but it is not a high priority at this time.

    hi there,

i used Flash Utility v3.0.3 to check the media my drive supports (LH-20A1H), and i only found DVD profiles, not a single CD profile.
    what the f***??

i'm actually trying to find a way to lower the write speed in order to burn properly a master CD, for CD album production. i've tested several media from different brands, and i can't burn under 8x with my FW (LL0C).
i'd prefer to burn at 1x, max 4x.

for info, I'm using Samplitude but even in Nero i can't downgrade the speed.

    what's our advice?
    thanx a lot
    l.

writing CDs at such low speeds won't give you better quality burns. even 16x and 24x writing should be almost perfect. but for best results, you should use a CD-writer, DVD-writers aren't that good in writing CDs.

    You can't. It's a Samsung OEM drive.

You can find the stock firmware SS01 for the DRU-840A in the Samsung forum (firmware announcement thread) and then use the Samsung Patch Utility to apply any available patches.

have you noticed the error indicator in device manager? You should have a closer look at that.

Just wanted to say thank you C0deKing for all your hard work and dedication.
I just recently purchased the ihap422 8 it was manufactured in Feb 09 and contained firmware VL17. I tried researching this on the forums and haven't seen much but I used your Flash Utility and it read and saved the firmware with no problem. If needed or wanted I can send you a copy of the bin file if you don't already have it.
My goal is to get the write speeds to 2.4x on some dual layer media as it will only burn at 4x even when the media is only 2.4x. I know that everyone wants to overclock the write speeds but I need slower. Sorry for the long post.
    Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi k3n and thanks for your kind words.

Yes, please send me VL17. You will find my email address on the contact page of my site (see my signature). Thanks.

I'm surprised you can't burn 2.4x DL at 2.4x. I haven't tried on my 22x drive and I can't check it myself for a couple of days. Can you select the 2.4x speed when using Nero CD/DVD Speed's Create Disc?

C0deKing thanks for the quick response. I haven't tried Nero CD/DVD Speed Create Disc. I did manage to extract the firmware and then open it up with Media Code Speed and I looked at the write strategies for the different DVD 9 media and only there are only 5 types of media capable of that speed and the rest are at 4x and 8x only. So I tried modifying the write speed of the brand of media I was using and replaced it with a different one. Well when I flashed it, the drive started up fine and then when I tried to burn the disc the drive game me i/0 error. So I flashed it back to the original and I'm probably going to have to exchange it for another as I just bought this on thursday. But I'm going to e-mail the unmodified bin file so you look at the firmware. Let me know what you find. Thanks again.
