It's been buried at the end of other threads, so I thought it important to create a separate thread that can't be missed. You can now fix the longtime problem of a too large lead-in being written on DVD-R media by the Samsung SH-S182D and SH-S182M. To do that, you'll need to cross-flash the drives into an OEM TS-H652D (SH-S182D) and TS-H652M (SH-S182M), respectively. While Samsung in the United States has been completely asleep at the wheel, Samsung HQ in Korea put out an update for the OEM drives that finally fixes the well-known lead-in problem. It's actually been out for awhile, but most of us are just now finding out about it.
In order to do the cross-flash, you'll need to use a version of the Samsung update utility called SFDNWIN that will accept the "-nocheck" option (in order to add options to the command, you have to use Run from the menu or do it in DOS). That will allow you to force flash your 182D/M, as the standard utility will not work.
Thanks to Skylon for the discovery, and C0deKing for providing the needed version of the updater.

Thanks!
Minor warning to updates:
SFDNWIN will FORCE-reboot your system. After flashing you only have "OK" button option and after that, without any further warning, it will reboot your Windows.
So make sure you don't have anything important in the background before flashing

No, it doesn't fix the lead-in issue. __________________

Note that the lead-in issue can also be fixed by cross-flashing the S182 into a Philips SPD2412:

Yeah, I forgot to mention it earlier and was about to correct that.Quote:{nitpicking=on}

To fix the lead-in on your SH-182M, you should cross-flash it into a Philips SPD6002T:

Sorry for the massive bump.
I just downloaded
TS-H652D Firmware Update (KC03)
and
SFDNWIN 3.25.4
To cross flash my samsung SH-182D. I added the -NOCHECK parameter to SFDNWIN 3.25.4 and it says Nocheck when I open the problem.
The problem is I cant open the firmware update file mentioned above. I read in anouther guide I needed to download teh firmware from samsung site so I did. But when I open the autorun.bin file provided by the samsung site I just get their newest firmware, I want to use the TS-H652D Firmware Update (KC03). How do I make it so SFDNWIN 3.25.4 installs the firmware I want?
I just tried extracting the file mentioned above, TS-H652D and got the bin file, but when I try to open it in SFDNWIN it jsust tells me its an old fw and I cant install it. -

Hi and Welcome!
simply ignore the "old firmware" message and go ahead.
You can also use the sfdnwin (or tsdnwin) version that is in the firmware package you got from TSST website.
