Changes to Product Activation
=====================
Microsoft's controversial Windows Product Activation (WPA) technology is also seeing two minor modifications in XP SP1, neither of which will affect any legitimate users. First, the company discovered that the majority of pirated XP copies out there are tied to single volume license product key. So Microsoft has alerted the company about the problem, changed their key, and disabled it for use after SP1. So anyone using this pirated key will be unable to upgrade to SP1 or any future updates via Windows Update, Sullivan said.
Also, Microsoft is adding a three-day grace period for people that use the same product key to install XP on two different systems; in the past, there was no grace period and the user had to immediately activation via phone in order to use XP on the second system. This will give users some breathing room if disaster strikes and you have to install XP on a new system.
"The impact on valid licenses is zero," Sullivan said"
* This must be a master key that peeps are using and therefore the reason behind disabling this key as well as changing too a new Master Key, which bypasses the Authentication Process*

installing xp sp1 only gives problems on systems with certain serials.
other serials and the way how to change them can be found on famous "beta" websites. Microsofts safety measures are already beaten.
i must say that the beta improve stability and adds some nice features..
do not know why people always complain about microsoft and still use their software...it isn't that bad -

People who use those serials only have themselves to blame and I can't say I feel sorry for them. It is MS' every right to protect their property, if it was mine I would protect it too (and I also would have made it better than this...if it were mine)Quote:Originally posted by damiandimitri

I was reading an article before and it stated that the SP1 for Windows XP Pro/Home Edition, will fix 1,700 known bugs as well as adding true support for USB 2.0 and other hardware devices, and too improve stability. I was looking at a SP1 before "1086" I extracted too a temp dir and I was shocked too see this pre build is 170meg in size. Putting that aside maybe Microsoft should have spent more time in the development side, instead of releasing a product that was not very stable, being polite. I am not too sure wether to purchase this product but at £300 +notes I have too ask is it worth it? If they would give me a good discount off my Full Boxed Millenium Edition, which is registered with them for my own reasons, then sure I would buy it.
At the moment I am toying with the idea, and if MS were too stumble across this post, I am hardly committing a federal offence! just an american term, I picked up last year

I have too agree with Da Taxman on this as you cannot blame Microsoft for blacklisting a widely used serial such has the famous "F***W" IF the consumer doesn't want too participate in the purchase of this product, then why should they be allowed too use it for free?
The only thing I don't like is that fact that if you change a device in your PC you have too phone MS and re-activate it again. Yes I know this is a security measure taken by MS too prevent multiple PC's using the same License. Too take it one step further I am not aware that there is another working serial number on the net accept for the one I mentioned above. I know people who have tried without success, sure you can get a patch too modify an ISO image or too modify some files in the dir you have on your HD containing the full CD before your burn it back too disk thus bypassing the authenication process.
To get SP1 too install they are going need a patch too modify the SP1 and remove the blacklisted serial number and allow access too further updates, before the end user will be able too install the SP1. A little knowledge is dangerous, just apply simple logic and there is your answer.__________________

I wonder if SP1 will solve the spontaneous restart issue in some computers (not mine thankfully) and many of the bugs in the compatibility modes. __________________

SP1 had better not mess with my bulk license key. I got mine from my university for free since they have a special deal with MS. No WPA. Google shows the key to be out in the open, though it isn't as famous as the 'other one.'
I got this thing running just the way I like it. Why should I have to reinstall because a few people can't keep a secret? It takes me at least two days get everything set back up, not to mention that the OfficeXP license I have itself is limited to 2 installs.
I'm already on #2.
Let's see... which would you rather do? Phone MS and get nowhere (What? You don't think of actually trusting these people?!), or find a keygen someplace to enable you to continue using software that you already obtained a license for.
This is total BS!

This is why I like XP Pro, if you screw it up you dont have to "Activate" your own software (especially when i get bored and i try to kill XP, i dont have to worry if when i changed my burner will it still activate?) __________________
