Mozilla: Facebook must do better and become more transperant

Facebook has to be more transparent, according to Mozilla in response to the report that the social network had partnerships with phone manufacturers that provided them with special access to user data. “Facebook has a lot of work to do to come clean with its users and to provide transparency into who has their data,” according to Mozilla on its website.

Earlier this year, in March, Mozilla already denounced the transparency problems at Facebook and therefore stopped advertising on the social network.

“Despite congressional testimony and major PR campaigns to the contrary, Facebook apparently has yet to fundamentally address these issues”, Mozilla continues. Facebook responded to the reports that it ended most of the contracts with smartphone manufacturers.

“While those contracts are important, they don’t remove the need to be transparent with users and to give them control. Suggesting otherwise, as Facebook has done here, indicates the company still has a lot to learn,” Mozilla concludes.

Today it also became known that Chinese smartphone manufacturers such as OPPO, Huawei and Lenovo were in a partnership to get access to user data.
