Lite-On to launch an 8x dual format DVD writer in Q4

BadReligionPR used our news submit to tell us that Lite-On plans to release an 8x dual format DVD writer in the fourth quarter this year. The 8x burners will use Mediatek DSPs and Sanyo PUHs just like the (hopefully) soon to be released 4x model, the LDW-401S. The latter will be Lite-On's first "own" DVD writer since the LDW-400D available now is based on Sony's DVD±R/RW writer.

Lite-On IT expects to start shipping 4x half-height DVD+RW drives in July and is set to launch an 8x half-height DVD-Dual drive in the fourth quarter. Total monthly shipments of the company's recordable DVD drives will grow to 200,000-300,000 after the 8x DVD-Dual drive is launched at year-end, the company said.

Shipments of 4x DVD+RW drives are expected to be 100,000 units in September, and the company expects to generate NT$ 3.1 billion to NT$ 4.4 billion from its DVD+RW drive sales this year '“ if the ASP (average selling price) is maintained at around US$ 130, the company said.

I noticed that NTI already has a "Lite-On DVDRW LDW-802S" in its list of supported drives which might be the model name of the coming 8x writer. You can read the whole article at Digitimes here.
