BenQ ships 10 million Optical Drives in 1st half of the year

BenQ has delivered a whopping 10 million optical drives for
the first part of this year with 5 million of these drives being DVD
burners. Even though BenQ has shipped a large amount of drives, prices are still
falling on optical drives causing an 8% drop in revenues for the second quarter
of the year. Prices for DVD burners are dropping rapidly but BenQ has insisted
that many can still be made on DVD burners.

Along with this news BenQ said it had received new orders for OEM drives from various companies with the drives being shipped in the coming quarter. BenQ have noted that prices of DVD burners will continue to fall in the coming quarter but not as fast as the previous quarters.

BenQBenQ delivered an estimated 10 million optical disc drives (ODDs) during the first half of this year, five million of which were DVD burners, according to the company. With OEM prices for DVD burners dropping about 16% last quarter, BenQ's consolidated revenues fell 8% sequentially in the second quarter, the company pointed out. However, the production of DVD burners is still profitable, BenQ indicated.

BenQ has received orders for OEM DVD burners from new clients, with shipments to begin this quarter. The OEM price level for DVD burners will continue to fall this quarter but the drop will be smaller than last quarter's, BenQ noted.
