    Greetings,

    Just a couple of questions...

    1. What does it mean if, during a transfer rate test, I get a spike during one test, but when redoing the scan, I get a nice curve? If a spike shows it in one of several scans, is that any indication of a suspected "bad" burn? Or is it likely just a hiccup in the system. I may have had other programs running at the time. Sometimes I get these inconsistent spikes that don't turn up in subsequent rescans. To what extent do system resources affect transfer rate test results?

    2. Are there any good guides or manuals for Nero's Toolkit or CDSpeed out there? I can't find any, even on Nero's website. I would like to know some of the particulars of these tools (like, what is the yellow, usually flat, line in the transfer rate test results? what is this measuring?)

Many thanks for your time and attention.

    Hi, Welcome to the forum

I'll reply to two of your questions:

"Or is it likely just a hiccup in the system"

Most of the time. Some drives are more tolerant to background activity than others, Benq drives for example being rather intolerant and they can show dips not related to the reading quality. It's better to perform this test on an idle system.

"what is the yellow, usually flat, line in the transfer rate test results? what is this measuring?"
This line shows the spinning speed of the drive, which is in general constant (with very minor changes) during TRTs, as it corresponds to the CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) reading used during these tests.

    Happy testing
