A few nits as long as I'm posting ...

I just installed v1.21 and figured, "What the heck?", I'd create a test disc. (Something I'd never tried before.)

So two small things.

First, I selected a write speed of 12x but the final write speed was apparently 13.09. What's up with this? What does selecting a write speed of 12x supposedly mean?

The second nit is that when I saved the image file the default file name I was given was "Create_test_disc_%A.png". The "%A" makes me think that something is wrong somewhere in the code of a sprintf() function call (or whatever is equivalent in the language used to code this app).

This is just how all (true) NEC/Optiarc drives write and read when 12x is selected. It has nothing to do with Opti Drive Control.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone

I've released version 1.22 which includes the following changes:
  • Disc quality: added option to set the jitter scan speed for LiteOn drives
  • Bug fixes
    • Disc information was not always detected correctly for DVD+R disc types
    • Create test disc: buffer level was not correctly shown
    • Transfer rate: testing CDs may not be possible with external drives

The problem with scanning DL discs with BenQ drives occured when ODC did not detect the DVD+R disc info. This has been fixed and the book type is now also shown correctly.
I also checked the DL scanning problem with the 20A4 but that seems to be a problem with the drive.
I will get an Optiarc AD-7240 on monday so then I will check the speed issue but in general NEC/Optiarc drives are a bit problematic when changing the read speed.

Will there be support for the scanning functions in Plextor PX-760A with either original or command-unprotected firmware?

Thanks for the new enhancements Erik.

First try at a transfer rate test saw the drive only using 2.65x CLV, even though 8x was displayed:
D00_CX16_CMC MAG M01 (000)_20x_ODC_RS_1.png

I clicked refresh and 2x was displayed. Set it back to 8x and the speed was now 8x CAV:

The installer for v1.22 still says v1.10 and the program shows up as such in Add/Remove programs.

Sounds like too many bugs... and at $24.95 per year incl. updates and fixes, it's still way too expensive for the few things it does.

On this system the first TRT with this drive tried to use 2.4x. Aborted and selected 16x again and the TRT went fine at 20x (patched firmware).
D21_1.0A_RITEK F16 (001)_16x_ODC_RS_1.png

Jitter now works fine with the new LiteOn jitter speed set to 4x.

This was already known from before with CDSpeed/DiscSpeed. You need a 20A3 series drive to to proper DL scanning.

The new iHAS' will D/L scan with this app but still no jitter reporting. Yes I know these are new models and it takes time

Most likely not with the original firmware but maybe with the unprotected firmware.
An easy (but not very nice) way to unlock Plextor drives is to start a PI/PO test with PlexTools and kill it with task manager.

There could be a small performance loss when measuring the buffer level with some drives but this should not be so dramatic. The upcoming version has an option to set the buffer level refresh rate.

I've found the problem so it should be fixed in the next version

I haven't seen this problem before. It could be a problem with the jitter measurement which starts immediately after the PI/PIF scan. I will check this.

Yes for jitter but in this case there was also a problem with the PI/PIF DL scanning with the 20A4. This has been fixed in the new version.

I don't know what's different about the iHAS324 but ODC auto-detects the jitter reporting feature so normally it should also work with new drives. I will check this.

@Erik when the scan reaches 99.9% it hangs for 5 minutes before it finishes. I have tried the iHAS 124 and 324 , jitter is ticked for 4x LiteOn scanning but it just does not report. Thanks

Well, today without thinking it through first I started up Opti Drive Control.

I got the notice that I'm on day 38 of my 30 day trial so it's register or forget about it. Since it still feels like beta software to me, I decided to go with removing the program.

It looks like I won't be given another chance to test drive it on my current windows install partition. Maybe I'll try it again sometime if I ever have to scratch install windows ...
