| The autosave function is very nice, but unfortunately it saves a screenshot just before the final refresh of the screen, which means that sometimes information is missing. Here is an example: 1. autosaved screenshot Transfer rate (BENQ DVD LS DW1655 BCGB) 22-maj-2009 01-15 autosave.png 2. manually saved screenshot Transfer rate (BENQ DVD LS DW1655 BCGB) 22-maj-2009 01-15.png In this case the burst rate is missing. In other cases the C1/C2 graphs are slightly incorrect in the autosaved screenshot (I didn't save that example).

| Small suggestion for next version of Opti Drive Control: If the burst rate and access times are measured before the transfer rate, the time it takes to perform the transfer rate will be shown in the bottom right corner instead of e.g. the burst rate test time, which is useless information. It's much more relevant to have the transfer test time shown after the test is done.

| CD Bler scanning is equivalent to the Advanced Disc Quality scanning in CDSpeed. It works with some BenQ and Plextor drives. My Plextor PX-712A is supported but not my PX-760A (with unprotected firmware): Drive does not support this function 1. Scanning with BenQ DW1655 in external enclosure: CD Bler (BENQ DVD LS DW1655 BCGB) 21-maj-2009 21-33.png 2. Scanning with Plextor PX-712A in external enclosure: CD Bler (PLEXTOR DVDR PX-712A 1.09) 21-maj-2009 22-20.png

| Disc quality scanning for DVDs is almost working on my Plextor PX-712A in an external enclosure, but the error at the end prevents automatic saving of the result. 1. Screenshot of the error: Disc quality (PLEXTOR DVDR PX-712A 1.09) 21-maj-2009 22-51 Error.png 2. Screenshot performed manually after dismissing the error dialog: Disc quality (PLEXTOR DVDR PX-712A 1.09) 21-maj-2009 22-52.png The PIE and PIF are scanned simultaneously unlike in PlexTools (probably by transparently switching scanning modes for short segments of the disc) and you are not restricted to 2x CLV scanning, so the scan can be done in a more reasonable time than with PlexTools. PxScan/PxView is probably still faster, however.

| Dear Friends I'd love it if a Mac version were developed! All I can do now is see the confirmation that Toast verified my discs successfully, and spot-check file copies from the Mac's Finder. I back up my images monthly to optical media. Each month I have 21-26GB of data and burn this data to one set of DVD-R (Taiyo-Yuden 16x Hardcoat) and one set to DVD+R DL (Verbatim 8x). Beginning in June I'm eliminating the DVD+R DL backup and will use BD-R (4x Verbatim). So I'll still have two optical backups, one on DVD-R and one on BD-R. I just wish there were a way to check the quality of my discs on my Macs. --Jaddie |

| If you have an Intel Mac, then just run a bare-bones copy of 2000 or XP in a VM and use that for testing. The real problem is for those of us who still use PPC Macs. While you can run a VM on one, the emulation is much slower, and not worth the trouble. I just use a PPC Mac and Intel PC side by side with a KVM. My PC is for drive diagnostics, media testing, and firmware updating, but I do my burning on my Mac. I doubt that anyone is ever going to spend the time to create an OS X specific version of any of these tools, and now that modern Macs use an Intel chipset and can run Windows at full speed, it really isn't that big of a deal anymore. |

| btw, what is DVD-R DL LJR

I've been meaning to install Windows on an extra drive, but I can't bring myself to part with US$85 to do it, which is the least-expensive option I've found using pricegrabber.com and bountii.com. --Jaddie |

![]() I've got the 32 bit version of Win 7 RC1 installed via Boot Camp on my MacBook for those times when I want to use windows on the MB. My desktop dual boots Win XP SP3 and the 64 bit Win 7 RC1. Lately I've pretty much moved to using primarily Win 7 RC 1 since in my case it's more stable than my XP install. (Don't know what's up with my XP install, but it's annoyingly flakey ...) It's still got bugs, but it's been stable enough to be quite usable from my perspective. YMMV, of course. -irrational john |

| Actually no, I'm using C0deKing's iHAS220 8LC2 which fixes quite a few bugs and slightly improves quality when writing.
