It can scan but i dont think its the best, the best are Benq (1640/1650) and true plextors, but both o them are hard to find, so liteon is the next best thing.

ive found the optarics7200 series tends to scan just like the benQ's 1650/1655. same paramatires. the benq is a legend of course.
imho i think the liteon LH-18A1P is about the best scanning drive there is. i have/had 8-9 different drives(i know thats not alot) but what i have had the 18x litey is a great scanner.

just m2c

EDIT:

wow. ive been a member here for some time but havent done alot of posting. just a few questions here and there. i just realized something. that the creator of the nero speed test is a standing member here also... that is great... as someone said in a few post back these scans test/bruns is very addicting... i cant stop. i will burn anything just to scan it.. guess i got it bad huh..lol

Both the 7200 and the benq use 8ecc, and that's the only common thing about them, nec/optiarc users can only wish that their drives are as good scanners as the benq.

But since there are no more true benq's out there, the liteon is the next best thing.

Check down the list of threads in this forum and you woulda found this http://club.cdfreaks.com/f96/how-cha...dspeed-247023/

I also asked about this. Search to find the thread I made if the above doesn't help you.

You have to go in the registry [check the second post in that thread], and add/change the buffer value manually by doing a few calculations [as outlined in that thread]. It's not hard.

Different versions of CD-DVD Speed/DiscSpeed might have a different path in the Registry.

uploaded the latest version (included in Nero 9) to our server and added the download link to the software entry @ cdfreaks.com

The .rar file includes DiscSpeed 5.0.1.250 and locker.dll, the second file from Nero DiscSpeed folder

pls let me know if you have any problems downloading the file

The DriveLocker.dll sucks. Only 9 of my 12 drives show up. Move it out of my folder and i'm back to all 12 drives.

Interesting Bob, wish I would have know this before I unistalled Nero 9 because my 7200S on my PCI SATA Controller wasn't showing up in CDSpeed but it was showing up in Nero Burning Rom and that may have been why.

I have a Lite-On 20A4P, and have had problems with both the latest version of CD-DVD speed and Discspeed since I installed the drive.
When I attempt a Disc Quality scan, about 80% of the time I get the "does not support this drive" error. I've also found that there's sometimes a momentary freeze when I switch tabs in the program, as if there's a dll conflict of some sort. I've even installed earlier versions of
CD-DVD speed to no avail. I thought it might be my anti-virus program but when I disabled it, the same thing occurred. It can't be my Win2000 Pro OS, because earlier versions of CD-DVD speed worked with my Lite-On 1653s every time.

What happens is when I click "start" on the Disc Quality scan tab, I don't even see the drive light flash. However, K-probe seems to have no problems completing scans.

I use Nero's wnaspi32.dll in the same folder for all my CD-DVD Speed versions. I just use it as a standalone app. I make a shortcut and place it on my desktop. I don't use Nero at all. Maybe that will help you out?

It still loads the options window after a bit, right? That happened to a few of us, too... http://club.cdfreaks.com/f96/nero-di...tanews-253673/

Thanks Albert. Yes it still appears to work okay without the reported missing DLL.

I'm going to try that. Do most people here use CD-DVD speed or Discspeed without a Nero installation?

I think my registry is messed up somehow. I can't get 4.7.7.16 to do jitter with a 20A3P. Where is the registry setting that tells the program to scan jitter for a 20A3P?

Are you by any chance using the modified version of 4.7.7.16 that supports jitter scanning for iHAP/iHAS drives ?
That modified version doesn't support jitter scanning for the 20A3 series.

Is the version downloadable from the cdspeed2000 web site modified? If not, then no, I'm not. I can't get it to work with 4.7.7.15 either. Why BTW, is it so difficult for the program to just universally work with Lite-Ons?

Something has to be wrong somewhere. I've even tried deleting all the relevant registry keys in the hope that settings would start fresh, and they do, but still no jitter. I've turned jitter off and back on, still nothing. What could possibly be wrong? Why is jitter such a sensitive and flaky function? Why can't the 20A1 and 20A4 do DL jitter for both layers? What exactly prevents it from working? Why can't CD/DVD Speed or DiscSpeed send the right commands to get jitter scanning on the 20A3, irrespective of version? Why all the need for this hacking and modifying? What is it about jitter that makes it so complicated?

Incredible! I figured out the problem (sorry for the rant above). I'm using the drive in an enclosure, and it turns out that jitter doesn't work on the 20A3 when using an Oxford firewire chipset, but it does work when using a Prolific firewire chipset. The 20A4 does jitter just fine with either firewire chipset.

Unfortunately this is a limitation of the drive.

There are two totally different ways to measure jitter with LiteOn drives (ie. 20A3 vs 20A4 jitter scanning) but the commands are more or less the same so it's a bit difficult to detect the method that the drive supports.
But the upcoming version of DiscSpeed will report jitter correctly with 20A3 and iHAS/P drives.
