I like to reccomend the samsung drives to people who show a desire for quality burns and verifying them with cdspeed but it's a pain to edit the registry for a noob.

This is about as screwed up as bitsetting support in certain firmwares.

rant off/maybe?

It doesn't have to be difficult - it can be as easy as using a REG file available here.

Sorry for the delay...here is a shot of the error. Disc works fine...just has this problem with CD-Speed under Vista Ultimate x64.

Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
I've noticed it even using 4.7.7.5 in Vista Ultimate x86.

This, along with many other small annoyances, convinced me to move back to XP.

I have a question about Codeking's 4x jitter app: Do you just run it once and it makes a permanent change to the registry, or does it have to be run with each launch of Nero Speed?

Thanks.

My guess is it stays as is until changed again (I think it modifies the regiestry).

I could be wrong on both accounts though, this is just when I read about this. Also, if you back and check after setting the jitter, it is still at the same value...my guess it stays the same!!

Erik Deppe included the selectable-speed jitter pass for Liteys in the 4.7.7.5 version of CDSpeed--it uses a registry key to keep track of the jitter pass speed.

Set & forget, unless you want to change speed again. CK's tool makes changing the registry key value a heck of a lot easier.

edit: Damn, I'm slow.

Does that mean CK's tool isn't needed to set Liteon 4x jitter reading with a 16x QS when running NS 4.7.7.5?

No, it means that you'll have to run CDSpeed 4.7.7.5 (or later) in order to have the option of scanning jitter at a separate speed, and provided you do run CDSpeed 4.7.7.5 (or later) you can use C0deKing's tool (or edit the registry) to take advantage of that option.

Hi - I got a question - 99% Quality Score - can this be true?
Original TY DVD-R 8x (silver disc) written with 4x speed.
Scanned afterwards in the same drive and .

Writing speeds lower than or above 4x produced more errors.
Should I be happy about the 99% or is this value not so important?

Thanks!

The value is not important imo. A single PIF spike will ruin the score for an otherwise perfect disc. You can trust the result. I'm pretty sure TYG02 from TY are the discs that will score most 99's. It's not that rare even if it doesn't happen all the time. A few users here have had TYG02 with 0 PIF and i never saw that from other discs

Erik,

A quick question from a newbie?

When I run DiscSpeed on my brand spanking new computer I see some interesting results with the cpu tests -- results for 1x and 2x are reasonable (around 5%), 4X is about 20%, but 8X is about 95%. The 8x score is dramatically worse than on my old P4 1.7ghz computer.

New computer is a SATA only core 2 duo system @ 3.0ghz running with 2 RAID 0 hard drives from the ICH9R chip and a SATA DVD burner.

When the 8X test starts the DVD drive seems to slow down dramatically and process explorer shows a huge increase for the "system idle process" -- it goes up to almost 100%.

The old Nero system info tool (from Nero 6.6 I think) reports that DMA is not enabled on the DVD burner but the read and write performance seem reasonable and not overly stressful for the CPUs while it's busy reading/writing. It's not clear to me if DMA is needed or makes sense for a SATA DVD burner.

Does this make any sense to you at all? Is this what you would expect for DiscSpeed?

Thank you in advance for any and all thoughts!

I don't use the Quickscan option, but numbers interest me.

I did a couple of test scans (with 20, 50 and 100 measuring points) with version 4.7.7.5 and they show pretty clearly why the averages are too high: divide them by the number of measuring points and they're very similar- so the counts are only being divided by the length of a single sample to determine the average. You can see this too, if you watch how the averages jump and then drop when the scan goes from one sample to the next.

Hmm, I recently reformatted and now CDspeed 4.7.7.5 is having some issues it never had before...

Basically if I scan a disc, the results come up, I click close the the summary report and then look at the graph. If I at any point in time, insert a disc into ANY drive connected to my PC, be it USB or not, the graph will disappear completely. Extremely annoying as this never happened before.

If I power my USB drive on it will also make cdspeed crash. I don't know why this is happening?

I had XP pro before and reformatted and put my XP home edition back on since I might sell this PC one day. Is there something stupid about home edition's drivers or something causing this ridiculous behavior.

I have just upgraded from 4.7.5.0 to 4.7.7.5 and from some reason in disk quality the "START" tab remain greyed out. I have scanned 100's of dvd's with this software and never had a problem. Kprobe 2 and DVD info Pro both work fine though.

The machine has not changed one bit. Same drive (Lite-On 20A1P), same OS (XP), same everything. I have checked DMA, F/W etc too.

Anyone have any ideas?

Not just you. Happening on all 4 computers I have here running XP Pro SP2. To go a step further, your graphs will disappear or the scan will stop if you launch any application that apparently 'polls' the CD/DVD drive. Kprobe doesn't give this behavior so I suspect it 'locks' the drive in some manner so that no interruptions occur during the scan. Tried DiscSpeed 4.9.0.0 and it has the same unfortunate behavior
