Please keep in mind that some drives don't like to start reading/scanning just after burning unless you first eject and then load the disc again.

A word of caution: I've tried DiscSpeed 4.8.2.0 and InfoTool 5.0.1.0 (got them from a different source). InfoTool has crashed two of my computers with a BSOD and DiscSpeed has crashed my laptop with a BSOD; these computers are very different (Pentium 4 desktop and Pentium M laptop). This has never happened for me with any of the earlier versions of these tools.

I suggest to save open documents and such before trying this version the first time.

Everything works fine on my system, except the "Option" button on the toolbar, which is greyed out and disabled. I like the new name.

Eek! That bug crawling around in my monitor is new though.

I checked it but unfortunately the 20A3 doesn't accept the command to read jitter so it's probably a firmware limitation.

I've put version 4.7.7.5 on the cdspeed website. This version is actually newer than DiscSpeed 4.8.2.0 and supports more drives.

Obviously this shouldn't happen.
I tested it on four different systems but could not find any problems but I will keep checking.

The problems with the option button and language selection are known issues and will be fixed in the next update of DiscSpeed.

InfoTool 5 seemed to load up OK on my Dell desktop (Core 2 Duo, ATi Radeon X1300PRO). I was able to explore all the options without error.

Didn't try DiscSpeed yet, so can't comment there.

The BSOD on my desktop machine when starting InfoTool is caused by the NVIDIA Graphics Driver according to the crash analysis; it's never happened with any other Nero Toolkit program nor any other program IIRC.

The BSOD on my laptop machine when starting InfoTool or DiscSpeed is caused by an unnamed driver according to the crash analysis; it's never happened with any other Nero Toolkit program on this machine and it's not using an NVIDIA graphics card but an ATI X700 graphics card.

If you want me to test a future version as to whether the BSOD problem has been fixed, then just send me a PM or email.

BTW the BSOD happens even before the initial program window is shown on the screen.

You're welcome.

Here's the list of changes:
  • Improved support for HD DVD-RW (DL)
  • Disc Quality Test: improved support for Asus drives with a Mediatek chipset.
I compared scans from the Asus 1814BL with scans from LiteOn drives and they where almost identical.
  • Jitter scan speed for LiteOn drives can be selected with a registry value:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed\CD Quality
    REG_DWORD Speed Jitter
  • small improvements

That works well when performing PIE/PIF scans at the same or higher speeds than the set Speed Jitter value. But when scanning PIE/PIF at speeds lower than the set Speed Jitter value, I think that the used jitter scanning speed should be the lower of the two speeds.

My suggestion is to change the registry value from being an absolute jitter scanning speed and make it a maximum jitter scanning speed instead.

Example: Speed Jitter = 4
When scanning at 4x and higher the jitter scanning speed should be 4x.
When scanning at lower than 4x the jitter scanning speed should be the same as selected PIE/PIF scanning speed (e.g. 1x or 2x).

Thanks. Yes, this has just recently been confirmed by LiteOn/PLDS. However, there's a good chance it will be added in the future.

When using the Quick Scan mode, the jitter graph is all wrong during the scan and it disappears when the stats window is dismissed. The average calculations also seem wrong.
