@ Erik

Please take a look at the attached scans. The top one was set to 1 ECC block, while the other to 8 ECC blocks. The PIF profiles are different as expected, whereas the PIE profiles are quite similar. The data would indicate that the PIE rates of both scans are counted per 8 ECC blocks. If so, would you correct it?

Any idea why my disc quality test won't run? The OK button is always greyed out. Tried with cd-r, normal dvd, dvd-r, dvd-rw(ty).

Plus another weird thing is that in my screen shots, the disc is a TY dvd-r, but it shows it as -rom in the disc quality page

Unfortunately LG drives cannot perform PIE/PIF Quality Scans.

Guys, quick help needed, please. I know I've got to be overlooking something, but it's driving me nuts and I'll be damned if I can find out what it is!

I'm trying to do a Quality Scan (Litey 165P6S) from a DVD+R DL burned to 6.30GB, but although CD-DVD Speed detects it's total length and keeps scanning until the end, the graph only shows 4.5 GB as if it was a single layer DVD! The benchmark tab shows the full length though! Help! Where's the graph scale option?!

I think this is related to your drive, I've seen some problems with it not completing DL scans.

According to the progress section, the drive continues to scan past the 4.50 GB mark, but the graph ends there, just like with all my other drives (Optiarc 7173, Sammy 182M, etc) All of them recognize the DVD and change the graph scale to 8 GB on the Benchmark and Create Disc tabs, but none of them change it for Disc Quality, so my first bet would be something wrong with CD-DVD Speed (or my settings!). Thanks for trying, though!

Sorry that didn't help - have you tried an older version of CD-DVD Speed by chance, like 4.51?

CDspeed 4.7.0.2 and 4.7.0.0 work okay on my Liteys when doing a disc quality scan of my one and only dual layer. It's commercially pressed. I do notice that CDspeed doesn't report jitter for this disc, not that it matters.

Scoobie: I did, but only went as far as 4.7.0.0, so not much of a try in itself. I'll try and dig out one of the older versions when I get home.

Steve: Thanks for your input, I'd swear I've seen 4.7.0.0 show the entire graph in the past, but something has gone wrong in the meanwhile.

On the other hand I could just wipe out CDSpeed's registry keys and go from there...

Update: I tried wiping the registry, still the same; CDSpeed 4.50, still the same. All my other drives do the same. Any other ideas?

Edit: sorted. It was a problem with this particular DVD. Thanks guys.

First post. w00t!

I found a Plextor review on x-bitlabs that found some interesting comments about the Advanced DAE Quality test.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/d...r-px760a_7.html

Quote:
Two CD-R discs prepared in Nero CD-DVD Speed are used in this test. One audio disc is normal; the other has defects of the surface, imitating your trying to make a copy from a long-used, bad-quality audio compact-disc.
I can create the 'normal' one just fine. Does anyone know how to create the 'bad' disc? If it's done simply with the app and a blank CD-R, I can't figure it out for the life of me. The program helps (and pretty great user guide here) have nothing on this, and my google searches came up empty. Is this specific to 4.7.0.2?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Nero CD-DVD Speed can only create 'good' test discs
To create a bad disc you can use a black marker or do something like this:

Yes, this is correct. PIE is always counted for 8 ECC blocks unless the scanning interval is higher than 8 ECC.

About the diagrams posted by muchin, I'm curious about one thing: Considering that each inner parity block contains 172 bytes of data, how is possible to get a total of 30205341 PI Errors for a 3298 Mbyte disc that should only contain a total of 20105856 inner parity blocks?

Pioneer drives do not count PIE errors by the ECMA definitions, instead, they count every erroneous byte in a row as a separate 'PIE' error (at least that is what I know).

CD-DVD Speed v. 4.7.0.2

This version does not seem 100% stable with my Lite-On LH-20A1P 487C KL05.
Once in a while, it will close itself just after completing a Disc Quality test or a TRT--before I can perform the Screen Capture.

But most of the time it works just fine.

Nope, not quality scans anyway, as LG drives don't support it. But you can use CD-DVD Speed to run a Transfer Rate Test with your LG.

Funnily enough, the same thing posted above (#1593) by uSerKey hapened to me on my mum's PC. Just thought it was her PC being strange.

If I'm not wrong, it's not a software problem, but a hardware problem because are LG drives that doesn't supports scans, and not CD-DVD Speed.

After a burn there seems to be a delay of a few seconds before Nero CD/DVD Speed will action the screen capture button. If you click the screen capture button again during this time the menu bar turns white. Sometime a GPF error is displayed and the app closes.

@Erik
Has the problem with the LG (in my case the H10N) not burning at the selected speed been addressed. For example selecting 12x for a +R on the Create Disc tab, will still burn at 16x. Using another app to burn at this speed (e.g. ImageBurn) works correctly.

Ah thanks

As for the LG thing, I was wondering that too
