| Hi Erik, nice to see you working on a new verion of CD/DVD Speed ![]() Maybe you can also have a look at this issue: I am using a Liteon SOHR-5239V for scanning CD media. It worked with CD/DVD Speed, when it was connected to an IDE controller. Recently I had to put the drive into an external USB enclosure. With that, I am no longer able to use CD/DVD Speed with that drive. Kprobe still works. There shouldn't be a general issue with USB connected drives, as my Liteon DVDRW, that is also connected via USB works fine with CD/DVD Speed. Regards and Thanks in advance, Michael btw: German localisation of InfoTool is rather babelfishy |

| Hi to all, I'm quite new to this so plese excuse my ignorance. I have two drives: a combo Sony CRX320E and a dvd-writer Asus 1608P. I used for some time to test my DVD-media with Sony & CDSpeed (Asus was not supported). The results was not like those reported here, perhaps because it is a combo, but I could rely on them because media that was more expensive and brand-sound (like verbatim) did better on tests, and more DVDs from the same pack produced roughly equal results. However, I have downloaded CDSPeed version 4.60 and tried it with the DVD-writer (Asus). It works, but the results are pretty strange to me. Here are some screenshots, 4 DVDs tested with both drives: 1. A Verbatim Advanced Azo: 2. A Verbatim Pearl Azo: 3. A4Tech: 4. slightly used BulkPaq: Note: it is my first attempt to include images, I hope I did it correctly, I have added images as attachments, if I did it wrong and there is a person (administrator or so) who knows how and can correct by displaying the images, please please do so, thank you very much. As a conclusion, the average PIE/PIF levels reported are: Media Sony CRX320E Asus DRW-1608P (8.00ECC) BulkPaq 91.41 / 1.61 368.50 / 6.37 A4Tech 10.77 / 1.09 98.99 / 0.68 Verbatim Pearl Azo 8.83 / 1.05 345.56 / 0.79 Verbatim Adv. Azo 9.54 / 1.05 185.14 / 0.10 (Sony: combo, 1.13 ECC / Asus: drw, 8.00 ECC) Can someone please explain to me why there are so big diferrences between the two drives? How should I interpret the results? And why Asus usually returns lower PIF levels but higher PIE levels? See example with CMC MAG AE1. And it is a very good media, both Verbatims are. In Combo top ten, they are among the best. Which drive should I rely on for testing? I red the list of supported drives, Asus 1604 is suported but mine is 1608P. Perhaps Erik can enlight me. Also, some specific questions: 1) What means "Glitches removed"? 2) In the case 8ECC, should I divide by 8 both PIE and PIF or only PIE to be able to compare? Thanks in advance for all your answers. |

| I have discovered a problem in the ScanDisc tool in CDSpeed 4.61.2 beta which is not present in CDSpeed 4.60. The problem is that ScanDisc aborts the scan before it is finished, and yet it marks all the files as 100% OK and claims to have scanned 100% of the disc even though it hasn't. I have confirmed this with two different DVDs, several scans, and using two different drives. These screenshots show the ScanDisc skipping everything from 4203 MB to 4482 MB and yet it claims to have scanned 100% of the disc and all files are marked green. 1. ScanDisc in BenQ 1655 using CDSpeed 4.61.2.beta 2. ScanDisc in Optiarc 7173 using CDSpeed 4.61.2. beta 3. ScanDisc in Otiarc 7173 using CDSpeed 4.60 - this scan doesn't show any problem |

| ErikDeppe: Thank you for a great piece of software Now that you are supporting Jitter scanning on Lite-ON drives, are there any plans to support the other scanning features of Lite-ON's own DVDscan utility? like Beta & Pit/Land histogram. |

| Erik, thanks for this great program. I hope you don't mind if I make a suggestion. I think it would be handier if CD Speed would remember the folder where it saved the last .png file, and use that as the starting point for subsequent saves. I think most programs do this. For instance if I use the Create Disc function, I might save it in: G:\DVD_quality\Verbatim\MKM_A02\disk7\burn2. I would then save the Benchmark and the Disc Quality scan in the same folder. This requires a lot of navigation. I have previously set the CD Speed options/capture to "G:\DVD_quality", so I have to navigate from there. It wouldn't be necessary to save the last used folder for subsequent sessions. Each time CD Speed is started, the first time a .png is saved it could use the folder set in the options/capture as the starting point just as it does now. |

| Discovered another problem introduced in Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.61.2 beta. The problem is not present in 4.60 or 4.11. (I haven't tried other versions so far). CDSpeed can change the Disc Quality scanning interval for NEC and Optiarc drives by using a registry setting. By default the scanning interval is 8 ECC, but this can be changed as follows: Quote:
1. CDSpeed 4.61.2 beta with Optiarc AD-7173A 1-01 (Stats) 2. CDSpeed 4.61.2 beta with Optiarc AD-7173A 1-01 (Scan) 3. CDSpeed 4.60 beta with Optiarc AD-7173A 1-01 (Stats) 4. CDSpeed 4.60 beta with Optiarc AD-7173A 1-01 (Scan) Both scans were performed with "Scanning Interval"=dword:0000001 and are scans of the same disc in the same drive. Btw. I just checked version 4.6.12 Beta, and both problem #1 and #2 still persists. Is there any changelog around so that I can keep track of bug fixes or newly added options. Thank you. |

| ErikDeppe i was wondering if the disc quality scan test for TYG02 will be put right in cd dvd speed software for the pio 111 as the pio 111 can scan ritekgo4 perfectly like pie 20 and pif 2 but on TYG02 pie is like 300 to 500 and pif seems ok thou, is it pionner that need to fix there firmware ? thx |

| Unfortunately there's been a bit of a mix-up. Version 4.61.2 beta should not have been released. There are some issues with it. But version 4.70 should be released soon. @DrageMester: There's a bug with the ScanDisc function in 4.61.2 This has been fixed in 4.70 You don't have to edit the registry anymore to change the scanning interval with NEC drives. The scanning interval can be changed by pressing the 'Advanced' button on the Disc Quality test tab.

Pioneer doesn't officially support disc quality testing so it's unlikely that they will change their firmware for this. However, the PI failures can be compared with other drives (such as BenQ and NEC).

I do not have any problem with my Liteon DVD writer, that is also connected via USB. Both drives are installed in USB enclosures with GL811E chipset. They also work fine with Kprobe (using SPTI interface, as I don't have any ASPI driver installed, except for Nero's wnaspi.dll). I'll try to decribe the problem further: After inserting a disc and starting the scan, the drive spins up, keeps spinning, but there is no progress in the scan. Scandisk fails in a similar way. | Version 4.70 will also include a new test for measuring disc quality which works exclusively with certain BenQ drives. The following parameters are measured with CDs: E11,E21,E31,E12,E22,E32,BLER and Jitter. The following parameters are measured with DVDs: 1-5 PIE, PIE, PIF, POE, POF and Jitter. Here's a screenshot: I used a reference CD to compare the results from a professional CD analyzer and the results were near-identical. So a BenQ is about 100 times cheaper than the cheapest professional CD analyzer but it's almost as good
