I've hit a couple of bugs in 4.50.

1. After burning a .iso image, test data (write speed) is not available during a scan. When burning CDS_TEST_B2, test data is available.

2. Cannot burn more than one image, and cannot stop a burn. Try these steps to reproduce:

Open the program, go to the 'Create Disc' tab. Check 'Burn image', click 'Start', select a .iso image, burn it. Take the disc out, don't close the program. Insert another disc, make sure 'Burn image' is still checked, click 'Start'. The program doesn't ask for an image file but instead starts burning a CDS_TEST_B2 volume. Nothing is displayed during this second burn (none of the four lines are drawn). There is no response to the 'Stop' button; instead, the burn always proceeds to completion.

Erik: There's also a bug in the Statistics > Selected speed report. The "Selected speed: 102X" supposed to be 8x P-CAV. It doesn't happen all the time though.

Thanks for this new version.

I have a couple of issues using my 165P6S:

1) No data (graph or otherwise) displayed when burning an image.
2) Are there options for changing bufer size becasue I couldn't find them?

Thanks for all the comments!

At the moment the buffer size can only be changed through the registry.
To change it the following value has to be created:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed\Transfer Rate]
"Buffer Size"=dword:00000140
This value is the number of 64KB blocks. The default value = 320 (140h) = 20 MB.

Checking the buffer status may cause this.
You can change the rate at which the buffer display is updated by adding a registry value:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ahead\Nero Toolkit\CD Speed\Transfer Rate]
"Buffer Update"=dword:00000020

The default setting is 32 (20h).
The problem can most likely be fixed if it is set to a higher value.

If it helps to figure out this bug, when I scan at 4x it shows 51x. Exactly half of the 8x figure.

Erik are you aware that when using Create Disc to burn an iso no data is displayed by CDSpeed or recorded on the disc?

But the registry entry to increase bufer size certainly works

On version 4.50 the 'burn image file' in the options does not stay for me either. Also, the 'include test data' is not functional for me on my 165h6, the data does not get recorded on the disk and would not show in doing a 'disk quality'.
From the results posted on the 165h6s firmware thread, it does seem to work for others .

Also before removing my pioneer 109, I did with it a 'create disk' without ticking the 'burn image' on the create disk screen. The disk included the test data. (I am just unsure if i did this test before or after I upgraded the FW from HS06 to HV7U)

So it seems to be somewhat specific to 4.5 and the 165H6.

When I use cd-dvd speed Version 4.11 (in Nero) all seems to work properly.

huge thanks for the great sw.

Note I have a liteon 165h6, my pc has an MSI MB with chipset 865PE (If it helps)

Comment on FW upgrade from hs06 to hv7u obviously related to the paragraph above on Liteon 165H6 and not on the paragraph for pioneer

In another thread I have been documenting an issue I'm running into while running the "Benchmark" test. The burners used are BenQ 1640 and 1655, and the scanners being used are LiteOn 165HS and 165PS. The benchmark always fails during the "Full" Seek Times test with the message "Error - LOGICAL BLOCK ADDRESS OUT OF RANGE (052100)". But if I turn off the seek-related tests, the "Benchmark" test succeds.

So far the following combinations have failed:
  • Burning TYG02 on 1640, reading on 165P6S
  • Burning TYG02 on 1655, reading on 165P6S
  • Burning CMC MAG.AE1 on 1655, reading on 165P6S
  • Burning RITEKG04 @ 8x on 1655, reading on 165P6S
  • Burning RITEKG04 @ 8x on 1655, reading on 165H6S

My only DVD+R test (which worked) so far has been:
  • Burning CMC MAG E01 on 1655, reading on 165P6S

Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Do you mean you don't have this problem when using another version of CDSpeed?

Sorry for the confusion. I have tried both 4.50 and 4.11 and both exhibit the same problem.

What I was trying to explain was that I can run the "Benchmark" test through successfully as long as I disable the "Access/Seek times" portion of the test in File > Options > Standard Tests. If I do not disable this test, the test will not complete and issue the error message above.

I've got this problem with 4.50:

When burning an image on a DVD+RW on my 4550 drive, CD-DVD speed locks up. It starts writing, but it writes just enough to make clear the disc isn't empty anymore. Then it ceases all action. I have to shoot it using taskmanager and I have to reboot to free up the drive again (stays locked by CD-DVD speed).

Haven't tried yet what happens with a +/-R disc, I don't want to risk to spoil it.

Also haven't tried installing an old version.

I did a fresh reinstall of Windows because of some other problems and I hoped this problem was also solved but it's still there.

BTW. My drive already had this behaviour before my cross-flash attempt.
