I read through the whole thread but nothing with my problem. I have a Benq 1620 using B7T9 and it averages around 1X for the scan. I've tried setting the speed to Maximum, 8X, and 4X, but the speed always starts around .71X, and slowly creeps up to around 1.3X. I see others scanning around 8X. How can I get my drive to scan faster?

1x is too slow, 13x and 16x settings are too fast, there's not much difference between 5x and 8x so the logical choice would be 8x.

But it doesn't make much differene because usually PIFs are much lower than PIEs. Unfortunately NEC drives cannot report POF or jitter. I am waiting for the new firmware versions to release the new version of Nero CD-DVD Speed so hopefully they will be available soon

PI errors are indeed up to two times higher compared with LiteOn scans because of the higher scanning interval. The transfer rate test shows that UDMA is probably not enabled. The speed should go to 12x.

As far as udma, it is running mulit-word dma mode 2. My hard drives are running the same though I could have sworn that they used to run udma mode 6? Does that sound like a problem? Fyi thanks for the help and all the great work. I am among those that are eagerlly anticipating error scaning on the nec's as I have a 3500. |
Erik, Seeing as there's a Linux version of Nero now, what are the chances of getting CD-Speed to run under Linux ? G

Erik, What is algorithm of average PI/PIF value calculation? Could you explain this: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...0&postcount=23
Hey guys, I hope nobody jumps up to hit me or anything, but i do seem to have a problem. I open up the latest version of Speed and i go to Deisc Quality Test... and the window loads but the Start button never becomes available. It stays grey (inactive). Why can't i use the software, d'you have any ideas? My drive is a Pioneer 109. I have a DVD disc inserted (i've tried different discs, different versions of CD Speed... the one on the site, some from different installations of Nero... nothing

Hey, thank you for replying. Ever since i've got this drive (Pioneer 109) i've been surfing forums and posting stuff and trying to see if there's a solution to the buffer problem. I admit i might have skipped some pages but it's been a 10 hour or more journey so i might have missed some replies. Again, thanx for taking the time to respond.

Has anyone tried disc quality scans with CD-DVD Speed v3.70 and the Aopen 1648/AAP Pro drive? With mine using firmware v1.02 scanning a DVD+R or +RW the program locks up after scanning about 72% of the disc. I tried different speeds too and it still locks up even at a slow 4x scan speed. Regular speed graphs work fine, but the disc quality scan stops at 72%.

| NEC's OEM customers may not have requested PI/PIF scanning. We have to wait on an official NEC firmware to see if this has been implemented. NEC also promised an update this month to enable -R DL. Lets wait and see if this update also includes PI/PIF scanning.

Clearly the firmware to support PI/PIF scanning has been "constructed". Erik Deppe used it to build support for PI/PIF scanning in CD-DVD Speed. It's possible NEC is not satisfied with their effort, otherwise they should just release it. Non-capable firmwares have been built and released since the announcement of the PI/PIF scanning abilities.
I suppose we shouldn't mix diagnostic tools, but here goes anyway. I really like the CD-Speed feature that allows you to create a custom data disk with a Nero *.nrg image file and have the transfer rate stored right on the disk! So I used Nero Recode + Burning Rom to create an image of a video disc and burned it with CD-Speed. The subsequent quality scan with CD-Speed worked like expected and indicated the true size of the image (just slightly less than the maximum capacity). Then I did a KProbe2 scan and found positioning/read errors for the last few MiB without real data on them. Apparently CD-Speed is setting the disc size to the maximum value somewhere. CD-Speed itself isn't bothered, but KProbe stumbles over this. I first ran across this behaviour on a (reused) DVD+RW and thought that it was related to this format, but the same thing happens with write-once media. Can someone shed some light on this behaviour? Incidentally, an option in CD-Speed to use arbitrary data (like in the standard data option) to fill space left over after an NRG-image would be a big win: full discs with (mostly) useful data! G
