At the moment only the maximum PIF is used.
It's pretty simple actually.
If the PIFs are all in the green area, the score will be 90 or higher.
If there are PIFs in the orange area, the score will be 50 or higher.
If there are PIFs in the red area the score will be less than 50.

This gives decent results with most drives. But unfortunately it causes weird scores if there is some kind of random spike bug like with Mediatek-based drives.
But the score calculation will be revised soon which should fix this.
Also jitter and POFs should be considered as well.

Ah, thanks. For some reason I though that the total PIF count was a factor. (I'm of the opinion that it should be), not just the max values.

This sounds good Eric. The Liteon CGxx and NEC 3500 firmwares produce single spikes at some of the recalibrate points, due to the relink, which gives them very low scores, but the discs still read perfectly at 16x. I'll certainly be looking forward to this change.

hi erik,
i was actually referring to a different point you posted in the Aopen 1648 AAP thread:

I was wondering whether Erik could say whether the quality score takes this into account in it's calculations. I seem to be getting what seem like very good scans but with quality scores as low as 10 or 20, even on pressed disks.

No, CD-DVD Speed doesn't do this yet so the scores at 32 ECC are indeed too low.
But this will be fixed in the next version

Actually this was implemented a long time ago.
Scores should be comparable.

hi Erik,
this was implemented for the Quality score since when (version), and how about the 32 ECC collected PIE and PIFs values ? i have been going through the older Aopen 1648 AAP and other Threads here in the past 2 days and haven´t found something else than your initial explanations about 32/32 ECC (or have just overseen something ?!) - has the actual CDDVD-speed version 3.70 this aspect implemented too, or must the PIE 4x and PIF 32x divide still work to get a clue on comparable values posted here in the media forum ?

thanks in advance for you reply

The actual values can only be compared with other drives who scan at 32 ECC intervals.
But the colored background and the quality score will give you an indication of the quality.

The following post should illustrate this:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=273
As you can see the scores are comparable and the graphs look similar although the error levels are totally different.

This was implemented in 3.40

Here is something many people have been waiting for:

PI/PIF error testing with NEC drives.

ND-3500 and newer will be supported.

Great!!! I hope you'll release a new version soon.. I want to test and compare the results with my Philips and LiteOn. =)
I want to ask you.. if it is possible to increase the scaning speed for Philips 1640P to 16x as you did for the BenQ 1620?

So when can we expect to see the new program that will support quality testing for the NEC 3500? Will it be functional with all old and new FWs?

Buyers will now have a VERY difficult time choosing between the NEC 35xx and the BenQ 1620.

@ErikDeppe:

Can you please put the program version number in the title of the program window, so when people post scans we know what version they use?
Thanks.

Thanks Erik! Looking forward to do some Q scanning, for us users with a single writer (ie. the NEC) this means we can do backups with a lot more confidence.

As Dee-27 says, Benq and Lite-on users can't say they have a feature that NEC hasn't.

Great Work Erik!!
