You missed the point- look at any quality scan (e.g. a posted image) and you will see an PI average value. The PI-value currently doesn't enter into the quality score.

The question was about Average PI and PIF, not about "Quality score".

Yes, I've re-read that question, sorry for answering the wrong question

I've read this ENTIRE thread to make sure I didn't miss a discussion on this...

I've read several threads in the BenQ forum that claim that you can get a good or great quality score in CDSpeed "Disc Quality Test" and still have a disc that has UNRECOVERABLE errors on it? These error will show during a "scan disc" (or maybe a transfer rate test?), but will not necessarily show up during a disc quality scan? I guess unless you are sampling the ENTIRE surface of the disc with disc quality test, then you might miss a bad sector? Since disc QT reports "number of samples" that indicates there is a finite resolution and it does not sample ALL? Please shed some light for me, so that if I need to run MULTIPLE tests to truely evaluate the data integrity of an important data backup, I know which tests I need for the WHOLE picture.
BTW- I'm not taking a shot at CDSpeed, I think it is FANSTASIC software, I'm just trying to understand it's proper application!

Hi,

Is there a way to test CPU Usage at different speeds than 1X-2X-4X-8X ?

With today's faster drives it is not enough to see CPU Usage at max X8 speed.
I would rather not do X2 but instead try X12 or X16.
It seems that each double of speed, is slightly less than double the CPU Usage, but I wish to see it displayed

Question 2: Is there a way to see CPU Usage with precision of more decimal point ie 7.8% or 7.75%? (maybe this will give a better "double" Usage reading if speed is doubled)

Hi Erik,

New BenQ Firmware 47N9 for the EW162I does not support Nero CD/DVD Speed correctly any more. Scan is now slow and no PIF reported.

Exactly how do you use a .nrg file when running the "create data disk" function? Whenever I click on "create data disk", it starts writing IMMEDIATELY, I see no option anywhere to select a .nrg file?

.nrg is nero's image file extension.(like .iso)
You create an image in Nero Burning Rom(.nrg) then burn the image in Nero or a compatible app that can(alcohol).CD speed create data disc is on the fly copying. No .nrg.

Get CD-DVD Speed V3.61
from http://www.cdspeed2000.com/
Under File/Options/Standard Tests select ' Create Data Disc'
under Transfer Rate select ' Burn Nero Image '
Then when you Run Test / Create Data Disc
it will prompt you for location of .nrg Nero image file.

While working with your great program I found some points which you might consider to improve, so here is my wishlist:

- After creating the data image on the Benq 1620 firmware B7T9, the tray has to be opened and closed for the Disc Quality Test to read the correct disk size. Without this trick it would scan 4482 MB, ignoring the real disk size.

- When saving .png images the images are not stored with maximum compression level. Using IrfanView I could reduce the size from 30-32 KB to 16-19 KB by simply loading and saving the images. This reduction would be nice to have in the longer test threads for faster loading.

- You did add the very nice feature to display the write speed in the test graph. It would be fine also to see the burning time and the selected write speed. These values could be displayed in the 'recording with burner ...' line.

- I had the nero images and the test results stored on different partitions. So each time when I had to select the next nero image file I had to browse the complete directory tree up and down again to reach the other directory. It would be fine if the nero image select file requester did remember this directory independently from the other file requesters. As a workaround I used links to the other directory in both directories.

- For privacy reasons an option to disable the DVD label in the Quality Test window and image filename in the create data disk window would be fine.
Thanks for the suggestions!

I'll post some comments in that thread.

At the moment Toshiba Japan is not interested in PI/PIF scans but their drives are not blocked.
Certain Toshiba DVD-ROM drives are supported.

The first graph always shows the PI errors. The second graph shows either PI failures or PO errors. PO failures are not shown on the graphs.

Hi Erik,

since many people do not burn and scan in the same devices would it be a nice to integrate boxes where we can add/select the device which was used for recording the disk. I think many would like it.

Hi Erik,

You have said in another thread :

Quote:
For the BenQ drive: PIE = correctable PI rows
For the LiteOn drive: PIE = correctable PI rows + uncorrectable PI rows (= PI failures)
So the PIE graph of the LiteOn is the PIE+PIF graph of the BenQ.
Would you talk about drives using other chipsets?

Do you've written the media with cd dvd speed? Or do you test a media written with other software? The burn speed graph is only included on medias written with cd dvd speeds function "create data disc" (german: Datendisk erzeugen).

Gerd

You can make NRG image file with data you like then burn it.

And make it just a little bigger than 4,700,000,000 bytes.
