Thanks for the reply. I removed the ASPI drivers, and in Win XP SP2, Kprobe seems to work fine without them and using only the SPTI driver. My drive is a DigitalMax DRW-3S163/SOHW-1633S flashed to a Lite-On SOHW-1653S, if that helps anyone else. After using both Kprobe and Nero CD-DVD Speed, I have found Nero to be more consistent when scanning the same disc. So that's a pro for Nero. However, sometimes Nero gets stuck and stops reading the disc before it's finished. At first I thought this was due to a high PIF spike, but it happened a couple of times with a good burn also. The same discs can be read by Kprobe with no problems and I have never had Kprobe stop reading in the middle of a scan. So that's a pro for Kprobe. As for using DVDScan also, it looks kind of outdated and unfinished, so I did not try it. Why do you use it?

Also have a look at my Introduction to DVDScan v0.04 for LiteOn drives at CDRLabs (I'm biased ).G |
That's a very nice clean guide, with great screenshots. I see DVDScan's strongpoint seems to be jitter scans. However, is this accurate or still the case with DVDScan?
Hi, i have a liteon LH-20A1S dvd writer and i have tried to scan some dvd TY02 with kprobe2. But all the dvd that i have tested have a great spike of pi and pif at the begin of the disk. If i test the dvd with nero cd/dvd speed program or with plextools utility this spike is not present. I have tried also to install the last firmware but the spike is always there. Have you some ideas? Tnx Pierpippo.
It would help if you posted an example. If this is an isolated spike, it may not be anything to worry about. CD-Speed removes "glitches" automatically (they're listed in the text summary). A "glitch" is an isolated spike with PIE=PIF (or nearly equal) and is usually an artifact from the chipset during reading. KProbe has a similar option "remove the spike" which does the same, but only for equal peaks. It could also be related to the spin-up phase. G

Is this a common obervation? I use CD-DVD speed but that's only because it doesn't require installation. I would have thought that for Liteon drives, Kprobe should be more reliable.
Hi all! I wanted to scan my DVD with Nero CD-DVD Speed, but it wouldn't let me. So I got KProbe2 and it let me do a scan. Here are my results: (don't laugh) ![]() ![]() ![]() (Is this the worst scan ever?) Edit: I will re-scan @ 4x and post results! Last edited by Pippille; 01-02-2008 at 04:32. Reason: 4x scan

I've seen worse scans than this. There's even a kind of hall of shame for burns. I suspect that your 4x scan won't be great either, but post it anyway! G |
I found this post a few days ago when i was looking for information on how to test Burned DVD Disc Quality. I decided to sign up today and ask for some advice. Theres 2 Pc's at home with each an older DVD burner (bought Q1 of 2005). Burner1 = LG GSA-4167B (firmware DL10) Burner2 = Sony DW-D26A (firmware JYS1) I decided to do a test on both of them by burning the same movie and test it with Kprobe/Nero CD-DVD speed on my Sony drive, since its supposed to be a Lite-On? Burner 1 is used the most for burning our movies for the kids and its been burning some crappy discs lately. Used media = Ritek G05 (Everyone seems to dislike it )Test1, the disc burned by the LG GSA-4167B (firmware DL10) @ 4X Read on the Sony DW-D26A (firmware JYS1) at 4x with Kprobe lg_sony.PNG Test2, the disc burned by the Sony DW-D26A (firmware JYS1)@ 4x Read on the Sony DW-D26A (firmware JYS1) at 4x with Kprobe Sony_Sony.PNG To my surprise the disc burned by the Sony DW-D26A seems to be very good, while the disc burned by the LG GSA-4167B seems to be good as a cupholder. Any thoughts, ideas, tips? Im new to this Quality testing
I dunno what the heck is going on here with my kprobe scans for the MCC 004's, but now all of them are a nice phat blue block at the top (first two scans) as opposed to peaks and valleys that I am used to, while Nero CD/DVD speed (third)looks a lot more normal. I don't think I changed any settings, I have uninstalled/reinstalled kprobe...I don't get it. Anyone have any ideas why my scans changed to look like this? I gather from the Nero scan that the disc is a pretty good burn, typical of most MCC 004's I have been using (neo-verbs, serif font top) except that I am used to getting it in kprobe, and very rarely use Nero.
You somehow fixed the y-scale for PI to a maximum value of 5. Right click on the PI chart and select "Auto Y axis" from the resulting menu and you should be fine. G
erm, of course I did! (how'd that happen???) I thank you, many kowtows!
Does KProbe support external drives or internal only?
hello, i tried to install kprobe today i dunno whether its software conflict or os compability but kprobe2 wont run in my vista even using compability mode the issue i experience.... i cant end task kprobe even from task manager ... also from my pc monitor, it throttle my os harddisk to full speed hope someone can help my issue thanks before
| Hi guys, was trying to test my Verbatim DVD+R DL MKM-001 dual layer disc today using Kprobe 2.52 and Discspeed and run into problems ... With both DiscSpeed 4.7.7.16 and ver 5 bundled with Nero 9, both of them stopped scanning at the layer change, it just won't run after it reached the 2nd layer. Scanning stopped, I had to close the program. Kprobe test ran fine, is it normal for a dual layer disc to have a PIF spike right in the middle, when the layer changes? Beside that spike, PIF count were no larger than 3 all thoroughout the disc. Here's the report from the Kprobe scan, scan speed 8x. Beside that single spike, everything else looks good. Running WinXP SP2 (installing SP3 made my Windows died, had to reinstall). | Having problems setting RPC1 with k[probe on my LiteON iKOS04.37 BD ROM, error message 'Fail to switch RPC work' Anyone any ideas for making it RPC1? |
Hi, I am new to this forum and to DVD testing. Just bought a new Lite-on iHAS324 and performed some tests on two DVD+R disks I have. After BLER tests, the PI chart is empty, and the PO chart is showing fine. For the first disc, the max PI is 23, from the status box, avg PI is around 8. But the PI chart is blank with a strange Y axis showing about twenty or so 0's on the left. The PIF chart is OK at max 2. For the 2nd disc, the max PI is 69 and avg PI is 9.99, but the PI chart is same as it was before the test, showing a single 0 on the Y axis, with blank content. the PO chart is OK at max 2. I tried both SPTI and ASPI for this disc, the same result. The test range is at Auto Dect for both tests. In both cases, the status box shows valid PI max and avg numbers during and after the test, but the PI chart is blank. The Nero CD/DVD speed shows correct PI charts for both disc. Is this a bug or something I did wrong?
