| Windows 8 may match the Vista 8 %, but if you are not using a tablet windows 8 will not be very useful from what I see. It will not be going on any of machines and my work has no use for it either.

| It's a funny world we live in. My mother absolutely hate Vista, because it's so different from XP. When she recently got her first Seven computer, she instantly loved it, despite the fact that it's not only similar to Vista, but also different from XP. |

| Despite the large number of Windows XP users, Windows 7 has become the top-selling Windows yet - more than 600,000,000 copies. Since more than 1 million Android devices - including phones and tablets - are being activated in a day and it'll double and triple and quadruple in the coming years, it is reasonable to expect there will be more Android devices than Windows devices sometime in 2014 or 2015. So-called analysts are predicting Windows (Phone) 8 is poised to replace or take some of the marketshare of Apple iOS, but we haven't even seen the RTM Windows 8's performance among the early adopters yet and so far Nokia's best Windows Phone devices failed to compete against even the second- or third-best Samsung-Made Android phones. Whether Android for phone is what Windows was for PC isn't yet clear considering Google acquired Android only a few years ago and it wasn't that long ago when HP gave up webOS it bought in 2010 which in turn was developed out of Palm. Just how many web browsers have been developed and promoted to replace Microsoft Internet Explorer since Netscape? Just every browser's developers and users said their faster and lighter brower would beat MS IE easily and in a short time, when all failed to do so. Of course, that doesn't mean Microsoft will continue to monopolize all markets from servers to wearables, but it does show how predictions and common senses by expert professionals or profesional experts and non-paid users alike will continue to be wrong and often completely off the mark.

| While I can't claim to have ever "Hated" Vista, I must also comment that my first Vista computer was a decently fast Core 2 Duo. So never having been forced to run it on any machine that would be argeuably marginal for XP... Vista really isn't all that bad. It actually has a few advantages over windows7, particularly in the greater adaptability of settings in User account controls, but I'll admit I have installed Windows 7 on every computer capable of running windows7, and the ones I don't have 7 on I know they are not capable through the unquestionable knowledge of empiracle knowledge of repeated failure.

I myself had no problem at all with Vista Ultimate, now the home version was another story, but that was only due to the fact that you had to many limitations even when you was logged on as administrator.

| Vista had some teething issues, manufacturers produced products that were under-spec and stuck vista on it, and the changeover from 32bit to 64bit was handled badly. There was nothing inherently bad about Vista, except people experience alot of problems. Service pack 1 basically fixed most major issues. Windows 7 was beautiful from day 1. Everything in Vista was fixed (it's the same OS, right), it had a few new features. The interface was more polished. Windows 8. Heavily Optimised for newer/current technologies. It performs faster than windows 7. It's quick, it's beautiful. It has the worlds most useless Graphical User Interface for PC's. It's basically useless for anyone that intends to WORK on their PC, and when I say work, I mean serious email, internet and Office type applications. I'm dreading my next (work) PC upgrade. My Home PC, I can just butcher and upgrade parts and keep windows 7.

if you actually look there are things visible in the folder structure., folders that are not actually there, but are in fact "Redirects" Vista is in essence a "prototype" that should have never seen the light of day outside the proving ground... the fact that they made it work (eventually) and sold it doesn't negate the mistake. Windows 7 is the "Ferrari" in the analogy, the fake folder redirects are gone. as an educational experience take a hard drive and install it in a C2D or better computer and run a vista installer on it, install all the drivers and verify that all is working... run upgrades until none are found and then make a note of space used on the HDD... Now run a windows7 upgrade on it watch while the installation SHRINKS by nearly 5gb. to carry that analogy a step farther Windows 8 is the "Chevy Volt" of operating systems, it does things we don't want and won't do things most of us want it to do. Steve Ballmer already uses it. The founder of Perceptive Pixel, or PPI, now reports to Kurt DelBene of Microsoft Office Division. Apple has also tried to make all the desktops and laptops touch-ready.
