RunCore introduces low-cost SSDs

RunCore recently introduced a new line of 1.8" Low Cost Zif PATA solid state drives (SSDs) and a 2.5" SATA SSD drive, with the company following through on a promise to help drop the overall price of the drives.

The 1.8" SSDs will be available with 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage capacities, with the following price for the four drives: $69.99 for the 16GB, $119.99 for the 32GB, $199.99 for 64GB, and $389.99 for the custom 128GB SSD.

Despite the lower price tag on the drives, read/write speeds are slower than SSDs offered by Intel, Samsung and other companies working in the growing sector.  The lower-end RunCore drives have a read/write speed of 75 and 40 MB/sec.

The 2.5" SATA SSD will come in one capacity -- 256GB -- with a $699.99 price tag.  The higher price tag also brings higher performance, with read/write speeds reportedly around 230 MB/sec and 150MB/sec.

A common theme among recently introduced SSDs is an extremely high price tag that puts the drives out of reach for the casual consumer.  Even with the price slowly but surely dropping, many of you have stated on numerous occasions that you're not ready to take the SSD plunge just yet.
