Poll of the day: Using an adblocker is theft

The increasing usage of adblockers worries publishers, because it hurts their revenues. Visitors with an adblocker enabled they don't make them a anything, while those visitors do have access to free content. Some publishers argue that using an adblocker is a form of theft, what about you?

Website visitors on the other hand argue that some publishers use such annoying advertisements that it's no longer acceptable. They do want to see the content and would accept less intrusive banners but want control over what they see and don't see.

Publishers also found a way to detect users with ad blocking enabled and some websites lock those users out. Recently it became known that the European Commission has ruled that illegal. Another issue why users use adblock software is to protect themselves against malware distributed over advertising networks.

It is an ongoing battle between publishers, visitors and adblock developers and will likely continue for a while. A possible solution is that publishers only show unintrusive advertisements and that visitors award those sites by whitelisting them. But some users might never want to see advertisements anymore, because it annoys them and because of security concerns, but that means publishers can't earn a decent revenue and eventually go out of business.
