Momitsu's BDP-899 may hold the distinction of being the world's first region-free Blu-ray player.
The BDP-899 plays Blu-ray and DVD discs from any region and is BD Live compatible. Users can easily switch between Blu-ray regions A, B and C by entering a six digital code using the remote control. As such, it's likely to be frowned upon by the Blu-ray Disc Association.
The player also handles a wide range of formats such as Xvid, MPEG1, MPEG2 , MPEG4(AVI), MP4 HD, WMV9, JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIFF, JPEG2000 and GIF. It ialso decodes high-def audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD.
The BDP-899 is available for US$349 from online stores such as HKFLix.
