Microsoft changes color of Blue Screen of Death in upcoming Windows 10 Preview

Microsoft appears to be getting rid of the infamous Blue Screen of Death. The company is currently experimenting with the different colored error screens, according to a Microsoft developer on Twitter.

In an upcoming Windows Insider Preview, the error screen will have a different color, such as green. This is likely because Microsoft wants to make a difference between critical and less critical errors, however that's currently nothing more than speculation as Microsoft hasn't officially commented on that.

For now the different colored Screen of Death can only be seen in a Technical Preview of Windows 10 that was leaked last week. It's unclear whether the new error screen will actually make it to a final version of Windows 10, as it's currently only experimental. However it would be a good candidate to be part of the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update that is scheduled for early next year.

The new error screen also has a QR code which currently directs users to http://www.windows.com/stopcode, later this might become a specific page for each error.

The BSOD hasn't been changed since many Windows versions, the last change was the addition of a sad smiley in Windows 8.

Update: As user Ch3vr0n points out, a new tweet from the Microsoft developer indicates this might just be a way to distinguish between preview and production (final) builds.
