Then maybe I was right. Your TY02 media is not so good. If you have a good media then your time will be in the mid 5:20 or less (<5:25). I got 5:29 - 5:36 before with not so good TY02, here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...5&postcount=61

From the review of BenQ 1620 ...
Quote:
Unlike other drives which preset the writing power before the actual writing of data, the WOPC II (Walking Optimal Power Control) algorithm evaluates the writing quality constantly and adjusts the writing power accordingly in order to ensure the best possible writing quality over the entire disc.

The BLER OPC (Block Error Rate Optimal Power Control) further enhances the writing quality near the end of the disc, where the risk of warping is higher.
WOPC tool allows you to disable or enable WOPC on BenQ 1620 and similar drives. You can gain a few seconds when WOPC is disabled, also the quality on some disc is better when WOPC is disabled. WOPC can also be disabled in QSuite but QSuite only supports BenQ 1620 with firmwares B7U9 and newer and BenQ 1625/1640. WOPC Tool works also with other firmwares.. like Philips P3.2, P3.4, older BenQ 1620 firmwares like B7T9, B7P9... actually with all firmwares that support the command for disabling WOPC.

According to you once WOPC diasable the writing quality improved, but why BenQ and Philips still activating the WOPC or used the technique? Is just for the option of user that they can enable or disable the WOPC for specific test? Or it affect the quality significantly in some cases of disc type?

I said "..also the quality on some disc is better when WOPC is disabled".. most of them still burn better with WOPC enabled.

I can confirm that MCC004 @12x is better with WOPC disabled.

I concur. I can also confirm that Sony+R 8x MCC003 and Imation+R 4/8x RICOHJPN are problem-free with WOPC switched off. I used to get Nero CD/DVD Speed Scandisc errors at the beginning of the disc, even with B7V9 (1620), but with WOPC disabled the errors have disappeared.

I have some MCC003 (verbatim branded) and I also think they are better when WOPC is disabled. Maybe it's not a coincidence that many people think WOPC doesn't do a good job with MCC00* media.
(With other media such as TY T02 I'd rather turn WOPC on.)

I don't get much difference with WOPC on or off when burning YUDEN000T02 (59) @ 12x.
WOPC On
WOPC Off

Quikee, your WOPC Tool also works with latest Philips 1640 firmware P3.5...
Note. This tested on a BenQ 1620.

Time to "upgrade" your P-1640 firmware (sig).

Hmm, in his case this should't make any difference...

But not all media will burn better with WOPC disabled. Here is my test when on Philips P3.5 firmware.
Same movie (.iso file) backup with DVD Decrypter at 12x on Platinum branded RICOHJPN-R02.

First pic with WOPC enabled, the rest WOPC off.

pinto2: I made some burns with P3.5 but the quality is worse a little than with P3.4. Maybe I'll flash back. =)

Hey pinto.......... Your transfer and burst rate test is down in your sig.

Never mind. Now I got it.

WOPC setting is temporary.. a reboot will set WOPC status back to enabled.

I don't know if it works for nu ddw82.. best to try it out yourself.

I did some tests with 3.5p on my 1620 too , but i didnt like the results so im back to T9, im hoping we will see W9 soon as u9 and v9 seemed kind of iffy for -r past 8x i have never had it burn even 16x rated media past 8x on v9 and very rare on u9 but t9 it works always.

here is prodisc F01 8x at 12x with wopc on, note prodisc past 8x is iffy on all my drives so dont read anything into the hill on right of scan.

You can get some benefits if PI/PIF scans give you disapointing results using WOPC ON.

1- you have perfect media : if after a "WOPC on" burn you are not 100% satisfied by the PI/PIF quality (some isolated high PIF spikes reduce the average score), try a WOPC off burn and compare.

2- you have poor media : try to write them slowly (@4X...) WOPC off and compare with your other burn.

More generaly, there is no defintive rule, just try and compare.

At the moment, for my BenQ 1620 B7V9 :
- DVD-R 8X TYG02 @12X WOPC ON is perfect. No need to try WOPC off.
- DVD+R 8X YUDEN000 T02 @12X WOPC ON is perfect. No need to try WOPC off.
- DVD+R 8X MCC 003 : depends on grade (Datawrite / Verbatim) and batch.
sometimes 12X WOPC ON gives good results, sometimes WOPC OFF gives better ones, sometimes 8X is better...
- DVD+R 4X Maxell001 : 8X WOPC off is good, will do some more tests WOPC on to be sure.
