You can cross flash with windwflash and .cvt files to "B" type firmware if you want to > http://dvdpro.club.st/firmware/BENQ_FW.htm actually i flashed to G7P9 tonight to run a few tests but i like B7P9 instead of B7S9 so far with the media i use (+R)

Site seems to be down for me.

This seems like the only place on the web to get the CVT files and WINDWFLash.exe program so this definetly isn't good.

Nevermind, my ISP's firewall was preventing access to the site. It was up the whole time.

Hi Guru's

Need Help.. Here is my situation

Brought a Benq1620 from Staples black friday.
Installed it on my system ( 2.6 mz,pent 4 hyperthreading, 512 Mb ram, 9200SE graphics card)

Recognizes the hardware ok, shows up as Benq1620 but when I place a DVD to play, boom, crashes the system. It happens only with commercial DVD's. I played self recorded DVD's and audio without any problem.

Did all of the following.
1. Installed the ASPI update from the adaptec site
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/sup...aspi_471a2.exe

2. Changed the jumper settings to make it master and my previous dvd as slave. Also disconnected previous DVD writer and had this one as Master, Cable.

3. Flashed the firmware to BP79 using winDWFlash.

still the same shit.

I am unable to understand what the issue is. It does not crash in the safe mode though I am unable to play the movie due to display settings. Unlike in normal mode as soon as the player starts to recognize the DVD it does not crash..

Sorry for the long post. Is this a firmware problem or aspi driver problem or what? There is no device conflict anywhere..

any help is appreciated..

Hi...

@kris7077: Maybe you should uninstall your dvd player software and reinstall it. I had a similar problem with PowerDVD/WinDVD with any dvd rom/burner in my system after evaluating some dvd burning apps. After uninstalling all application which installed a dvd decoder software onto my pc and just installing PowerDVD and WinDVD all was fine again.

But your problem could be a different.

Regards,

Gerd

Ok. Because this thread was misused for other discussions here again is the link to the firmwarepage, that people are likely to look for in this thread:

A temporary mirror page for BenQ firmware.

http://www.storageinfo.co.kr/EzMODse...ic.php?t=28106

(Some links might not work and the files will be reorganized at a later time without notice.)

(Not sure why I still receive PM's telling me my links don't work.)

Page updated,

If interested in DL burning capability of DW1610 ,

also take a look at this:

http://dvdpro.club.st/1610_B8P9_TEST...8P9_Test_1.htm

Now, we also have made "B8T9" under testing.

Only traditional-Chinese version is available for now...

Thanx.

Ok, I just flashed my "White Box" 1620 from G7H9 using WindDW Flash and the B7T9 CVT file. Is that all I need to do? Or do I need to flash again using the Official B7T9 file? And my drive is now a "Pro", and I can use official firmware from here on out. right?

Nice drive collection. If it shows up as having B7T9 f/w then that's all you need to do. Congrats on the new BenQ 1620

@rolling56, Yes it's showing up as B7T9 after flashing with the CVT file. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something else to do. Does the B7T9 make it a "pro" and give it 4X Dual Layer capability?

@pinto, hey pinto! You changed your avatar. Yeah, it seems this 1620 is pulling people in from all over the place. I see you still have your Liteon. How do you like your 1620?

BTW, here's my 1620's "first step"
MY FIRST BURN - CD/DVD Speed scan of 8X Burn on TY02 with B7T9 Firmware

And here's a Kprobe scan of the same disc.

[H]itman > Actually B7P9 made the 1620's a Pro but B7T9 is newer so i'd say yes it makes it a Pro with 4x DL. I've never used any DL disks so i can't confirm that mine with burn @ 4x DL. By the way mine came with "G" f/w also and never had any problems with "B" f/w's. Nice burn I have a NEC 3500 also and both are good burners each with thier own pro's and con's.

Bitsetting is enabled by default isn't it? I totally forgot about it, but I checked that disc I burned and book type shows up as DVD-ROM.

BTW, I don't burn many DL discs either, but I just wanted to know what speed it would burn them at.

You can go to BenQ's site and download BookType Management 8.4 tool it's a perty nice tool. You can even change booktype with a +RW back and forth without reburning it.
