Plextor 712 can overburn DVD+ media. (Both DVD+RW and DVD+R). Sometimes it's usefull.
Thanks Stephen for the information. Do you know how much more space is allowed for overburning DVD+ media on Plextor 712?

Deppends on the disk, an extra 50-150 MB can be written to the disks, I tried several disks, and they work fine. (of course if the reader can handle that, Xbox does not like these overburnt disks)

Make the date for a Blu-ray release at 1Q, 2005, not 4Q, 2005.

agree with sen

leadout timmings need to reduce....it is getting too long and killing the
overall burn time....

I think it's also wise if you have compatibility problems with certain media then please post the Brand, MediaCode (Place of Purchase might help as well) here so the engineers can purchase these media type and add support.

Improve DVD-R burning quality!

Even with BenQ DW1620A, fwB7P9 and quality media (TYG02) burned at recomended speed, the PIE reaches 295 and larger areas over 200!
This would never happend with DVD+R

Full media info Verbatim Datalifeplus 4,7GB Advanced AZO DVD-R 8X certified 5 pack slim pastel disc

I`m hoping for DVD-R burning quality improvements on the next firmware

Hopefully the engineers are off doing productive work, but a few support technicians would do. We'd be willing to wager that there are quite a few well placed individuals lurking here, though it probably isn't politic for them to stand in the open. Forums of this nature tend to be rather adversarial, so any vendor stepping in is likely to need asbestos underpants.

The main thing we'd like to see is the firmwares compiled in release mode, rather than debug mode. At the moment they are chocked full of debug messages and asserts. Take this stuff out, turn the optimizer on, and there will be a lot more space in the firmware to add new features.

Hope they will improve support on those cheapo media like the Fornex101. I heard they are ok on other writers but I can't get an acceptable burn.

My wish list for my DW1620

Improve DVD-R writing (I have a waste bin with 20 DVD-R's in it that worked fine on my old PX-708A and fail to write at any speed on the DW1620). Is it possible for the drive to make a more educated writing stratagy guess after completing a Qscan / media test? The drive seems to have no problems writing to really cheap + disc's but hopelessly fails with cheap - discs.

Even better would be the ability to test a media and get the drive to auto adjust on an outer section of a disc (If not using the full disc). Would allow the drive to check stratagy and adjust if needed.

Ability to overspeed a disc upon successfuly completing a scan if the media seems suitable for it.

Ability to turn off the drives self check & force a burn on an unsuitable disc.

Î think they could really build up their reputation by not 'giving up' older drives, e.g. the DW822A+. Many users feel that the DL <-> DVD-R switch tools is not what they expected and I think making the DW822A+ at least QScan compatible would be a nice way of apologizing for the screw-up

On the less 'technical' side - a REAL manual would be nice.

Allowing me to burn 4x & 8x DVD+Rs at 2.4X speed instead of limiting the minimum burn speed to 4x would be nice .

Yes and this should be commended, along with the Nero SDK guys in their forum. We should all encourage technical support staff to at least come and surf and lurk in the forum if they are allowed internet access. We must however remember that their management might frown upon a visable presence in the forum.

So if you are on the phone with them, let them know which forums you think they should be reading. There is nothing quite like direct customer feedback to get the pointy haired bosses thinking. Even if you don't have a problem with your drive, or are wildly happy with it, be sure to communicate that to the sales and marketing staff and tell them which forums and reviews you find the most credible.

Agree with two previous posters: lead in/leadout timings could be optimised.

Also would appreciate QScan support for EW1621 - & the 822A

I wish Qscan remembers my drive, so I do not have to select it every time I use Qscan.
Also I think the lead in/out should go faster!
