| Some questions about I/O Magic IDVD16DD (BenQ DW1620) I just got this drive (dad gave it to me, brand new in box) and am about to install it into my computer. BenQ is the OEM. I heard that DVD-R disks don't write as well as DVD+R disks on BENQ drives. Well I plan on using only 16X DVD+R disks in the future but I've still got about 25-30 DVD-Rs and they're all Verbatim 16X. I plan on cross flashing the drive and then updating it to the latest firmware. How good is this drive for writing Verbatim 16X DVD-Rs (MCC 03RG20)? |

| Re: Some questions about I/O Magic IDVD16DD (BenQ DW1620) The -R is worse than +R myth is not true, especially with quality media. BenQ drives do a great job on any MCC media. In fact, the 1620 and 1640 both have a "bug" with 16x DVD+R media, in which scans in some drives show some nasty spikes on the end of the disc for every burn, and the maximum recommended speed for DVD+R is 12x to avoid this.

| Re: Some questions about I/O Magic IDVD16DD (BenQ DW1620) Regardless of the quality difference, the BenQ 1620 will do a better job on MCC +R than on MCC -R. And I agree, with the 1620 you are much better off burning 16X media at 12X, +R or course.
