Problem reading recorded DVDs

My Plextor PX-712 and BenQ 1640 can barely read each others' RW (CD and DVD) burns and I get wildly different results when each scans the others' burns. That seemed odd because I get almost identical PIE scan results from DVD-R/DVD+R media recorded by either.
I basically keep separate RW media for each now. Can you CDSpeed-scan the discs recorded by the LVW-5007, or does the 1640 not recognize them at all?
