Re: Post your DW1650/DW1655 scans here...

Again some scans.
First two are Philips DVD+RW 4x rated, written at 4x. Although the PIF total is quite high, the disc performs well both in my xbox and my standalone Panasonic dvd-player.
Third scan is a Verbatim pastel-coloured dvd+r 8x, written at 8x. Very nice result again!

Re: Post your DW1650/DW1655 scans here...

My wife got some MCC 004 online, they were really cheap branded 01ne 'movie style'. I thought they were probably fakes and were gonna be crap, but they produced regular quality scores of 93 to 96 on my LiteOn 1635@YS0V. Rambaud's scan is better though, can't wait to try them on the 1655, will post results.

Hi
Rambaud
Looking at your burns (getting there)I'm sure you'd like to swap your 1655 for my very valuble (only used once) 1620.
BTW let us know how you get on in terms of response from dealer.

Or maybe we should simply have no standards in the forum.
Regarding the forum standard, there is only an unwritten agreement about scanning speed, ie BenQ scans at 8x, Lite-On 4x (except 1635S @8x), NEC 5x or 8x, and Plextor at its default speed.

However, in terms of scanning drive, the preference is to provide scans done with the drive that did the burn but if you prefer, you can supply scans from any drive as we can see in many "scans thread" all over the forum. In case of 1650/1655, since the drive is just released we also want to see how well is the reading performance.

We understand that all the scans here are provided voluntarily by members using their own media and valuable time, therefore I'm sure a polite request will be a better way to go.

Now, can someone please scan a 1620/1640 16x +R burn with 1655/1650 to see if the PIF spikes are still there? Thanks.

Seems im back. Good to hear my scans are appreciated.

So I figured out it was time to test the LightScribe capabilities of the drive.
Random pic taken from google pics and burned at "best". Took approx 33minutes.

Pic got a bit blurry, sorry about that, but you can still see the result.

Before I started the LS process I did a normal cdspeed create disk test and scanned it.

And this is the scan after applying the LS label.

As you can see, it seems the LS process adds a bit of PIE and jitter.

As requested, here is a 16x dvd+r burn done in the 1640 and scanned with the 1655. As you can see, the spikes are still there.

I think the problem is the price. I have both 2.4 and 8x verbatims, but they are too expensive, atleast for me, to just waste on random data.

Re: Post your DW1650/DW1655 scans here...

Has anyone seen any options to control SolidBurn and Overspeed through Nero for the 1655? I've set the options in QSuite anyway. I'm using latest Nero version, but I suspect that they are only visible in Nero for the Philips drives, can anyone confirm this? TIA 4 any replies.

I also noticed that the writer's buffer indicator seems erratic with OS and SB enabled. Is this normal?

zevia, it looks like 165* drive are as good readers as 1620/1640 drives.
Or if this tastes better; same bad liers.

From what I've seen sofar here, scanning ability looks the same for the new 165* drives as for old ones.

Linked post originally made by ala42.

With this it's not said latest CD-DVD Speed works with BenQ 165* drives (haven't the drive myself). If it doesn't work keep an eye on this thread.

The SB settings was only intended for Philips drives, but if you use the registry tweak you'll be able to use them with the BenQs as well in later versions (post 4.07 they only work for Philips drives withouth the hack).
