This is why I normally only by TY and Verbatim because I do not like to waste $$$ for scans like this. Nothing wrong with it I guess but it's not up to my standards and I can get TY for the same price or less.

just messin' around a little

BenQ 1640 Retail (May '05, China, BSLB - MCSE Speedpatched)
Verbatim 16x DVD-R - MCC 03RG20 @ 16x in 5:36 w/CDSPEED 4.07
WOPC: OFF
SB Known: OFF
SB Unknown: ON
Overspeed: OFF
.ISO burn from RAID-0

not too bad for a 5:36 time though PIE gets a little high near the end....QS would've been 97-8 if not for the spike to 7 at the beginning...read transfer smooth to 16.10x

My first test scan on cheap media.
BenQ 1640, just got yesterday, June 2005, China, BSHB(stock).
No WOPC, no SB.
Media: 2.4x DVD+RW, Infodisc A10, brand: Compusa, $8 25-pk (cheap).
Certified speed: 2.4x, burned at 4x, scanned at 8x

Comparing my results with #776(Maxell +R), my PIE and PIF are higher, my PIF max is lower, but my quality score is better. It seems PIF max weighs more in the final score.

HP / CMC MAG. AE1
Burn Speed: 8x
Burn Time: 8:35
WOPC: On
Solidburn: Off
Overspeed: Off

A friend gave me a handful of these to burn them some things, not too horrible. Around the level of my usual "B" stock, ProdiscF01. Transfer rate curve was perfect.

Brand: Ridisc Extreme DVD-R 16x
Mediacode: RITEKF1
Burner: BenQ 1640 BSLB
WOPC: on
Overspeed: off
Solidburn: on
Burnspeed possible: 16x
Burnspeed selected: 16x
Burntime: 8:45
Reader: LiteOn JLMS XJ-HD166S DS1E

Normally I would post here some scans made by Benq 1640 and LiteOn 1653S from a RitekF1 (burned in 1640), but it´s not possible

At 17% the 1640 slowdown to 8x, Nero´s Verify shows "all ok" but the Benq slowdown from 79% til end

The 1640 and LiteOn 1653S shows media as "Blank disc", no scan possible.

But some other drives (all I tried) have no problems to recognize and play it:

Toshiba SD-M 1912
LiteOn JLMS XJ-HD166S DS1E

Cyberhome CH DVD 402
Panasonic DMR-E 53
JVC DR-M 10S

So I used the 166S for scanning, but can choose only max. speed. The result is not good:

the benq 1640 and yuden T02 always play very nice together indeed
All my scans are 98 & 99 % also

does anybody know were I can get some more Yuden T02's?
my batch of Fujifilm disks is getting smaller and smaller and Fuji now is using Ritek R03.
(I live in the Netherlands btw.)

Look for Verbatim Pastel and Plextor, they´re using TY-media

latest burn with 1640 BSLB @ 8x DVD-R Verbatim. (WOPC: on, SB: off)
The first one from this package that came out with average PI under 80...
Somehow I had only luck with MCC04 to come near the burn quality from the review since I own this drive.

I recently found an old stash of RitekG04, I put these away in the closet long time ago because my Liteon 811 likes trashing these disks. Burning at 8x I get 2x or 3x more PIE and PIF's. I care more about quality than speed. 1640@BSLB

Unbranded
Media code: RitekG04
Wopc on
SB off
Overspeed off
Write speed 4x
