Burner: Benq DW 1640 FW BSHB
Software: Nero 6.3.1.25
Burnspeed possible: 16x
Burnspeed selected: 16x
Media brand: Philips -R 16x (made in Taiwan)
Mediacode: MCC 03RG20
Reader: Lite-on 1633 (BS0S)
Readspeed: 4x

this disc was burned in 8:52 with WOPC on (max write speed about 7,7x as showed by nero)

PI errors are high, but PIF are not too bad... bad batch of media ???

I'll try this disc with WOPC off and will post scans

first image is reading curve
second image is scan with benq 1640 @8x
third image is scan of the same disc with liteon 1633 @4x

benq 1640 BSHB burn this disc only @ 8x max (no overspeed with BSHS firmware) WOPC on

My first 99 score!!!

PIE are a little high, but my 1640 definitely love these discs

very good burn. The PIEs are even across the entire graph, with very good PIFs. It appears the RICOHJPN R02 (003) is good in that burner. Now you have one 'winner' for sure in terms of quality media for that drive.

thanks Quema34

these discs are certainly on my favourite list: they burn very well also on my liteon 1633.

they are only 8x discs, but quality is more important than speed

Quite right; burn quality is far more important than burn speed. There is some 8x media people with BenQ1620s get to write at 16x with 8x burn quality, but I can't say how many that is compared to those who settle for burning 8x rated media at 8x. If you can get more speed with the same burn quality, that's great, but not everyone can do that.

Happy burning!

Better to burn @ 16x with this media. One question... is it normal around 11min for burning that media? WOPC was on and DMA on too (BenQ drive is master in secondary IDE in PC). I imagine that with WOPC off only i will need around 6min... it is true?

Media: Fuji DVD+R 8x, 25er
Mediacode: YUDEN000 T02
Burner: Benq DW 1640 FW BSHB
Software: DVD Decrypter 3.5.40
Burnspeed possible: 8x
Burnspeed selected: 8x
WOPC: OFF

The same discs as I already tested, but now WOPC off.

Interesting:
The disc with the lower quality score creates a smoother reading curve.

@ SDayRE:
No, thats definitely not normal.
Your time indicates a burn between 4x and 8x.

Yes, a true 16x burn would be around 6:08-6:12...

True.. but BenQ 1640 is even a little faster... it burns at 12x ~6:25 with WOPC on and ~5:45 at 16x with WOPC on.. With WOPC off it can burn a DVD+R disc even around ~5:20 and a DVD-R ~5:30. It's the fastest burner for DVD+R disc (but quality isn't great)... on DVD-R LG 4163 is the fastest with a record 5:15. =)

A lot of thanks for the information i'll investigate what's the problem (it's very strange, DMA is on and all seems works ok). With 16x and WOPC on ~ 5:45? interesting... i think that geno888 (see post #57 in this thread) has a similar problem, same media code burned like me, WOPC on and same burn speed (16x) in 8:52.. far from around 6min.

The OPC procedure will sometimes limit the writing speed to 8x or 12x with some 16x media. You will not notice it unless you watch the time to complete the burn, or use a program that shows the actual writing speed while writing.

QScan of QSuite tell me that media supports 16x, DMA is on....
Excuse my ignorance, what's it OPC? when i burn a media with Nero i select 16x write speed without problems... It exists some way to change that limit that put OPC procedure?
-----------------
A fast search in the forum:
OPC = Optimum Power Control
But i didn't understand the concept, it's a part of media or an algorithm that use DVD Writers with information in the media?
-----------------
Another comment... when i burn a DVD-R, Nero say me ~ 6min to finish the burned but when it arrives around 50% recalculate the time and it begin to say me again ~ 6min to finish... very strange. Any help or suggestion?

I don't think that this is a burner problem: in my opinion is a MEDIA problem.

I've read that other users on this forum refer some difficulties of benq 1640 with -R (dash) media.

However, other than burn speed I'm not complaining about these discs, because burn results are not too bad
