My bad! I should have tested this further before making false assumptions
Don't blame me, I tested the other versions with "Quick scan" option which gave "No addtional sense information" error with all versions except 4.6.0.0.

I re-made some scans on layer break range where the error appeared and actually the DL scanning gives this error only with 4.7.7.5.
Tested versions that are okay with DL scanning: 4.6.0.0, 4.7.0.0, 4.7.7.3, 4.7.7.15, 4.9.0.0 (DiscSpeed 4 from Nero 8).

Conclusion: DL scanning is only broken on 4.7.7.5

Thank you for your reply.

I already found it at http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/.

All is well again with scanning.

Got a 'new' used Philips DVDR1648 from eBay (BenQ DW1640).

First test burn with Philips firmware, Verbatim MCC004, MIT CMC PAP6 @8x

Looking good
Now the question is: To X-Flash or not to X-Flash
But I think about using this one as my main scanning drive...

You can always download and flash it back to P2.4 firmware, so there's no risk:
