Funky looking jitter line on that T02 burn, but I thought the TYG02 burn was still nice tho (tho you were actually trying for 16x ).

You obviously did not see my Plextor's result on the same media:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...postcount=1491
and
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...postcount=1478
Comparing to them, BenQ's result is very good.

Funy thing with this disc, as you can see the LABEL is not shown, which means that the disc cannot be recognised by windows subsystem...
Otherwise label CDS_TEST_B2 or something the like would be shown

Something gone wrong with the burn ?
or something to do with some of alterations which happened in FW B7W9 compared to B7V9 ?
I am at a loss here, cos the scan can be performed, but disc is further unreadable... LED of drive keeps flashing when disc is inserted
My Brother's PC can not read the disc either, he has an older ND-1300A (my first DVD burner before I got DW1620)

mayb due to the more PIE errors compared to the beginning of drive ???

Is turning off WOPC for this type and brand of media recommended, cos I feel WOPC is reliable though in general ???

MayB I will burn my media at certified speed instead just to keep my drive happy... except for 16X media which I will burn at 8X then...
rest of my batches are 8X certified so I will stick to that then...

I did use Quikee's WOPC tool 1.1.0 to perform a forced spin-up before burning, but Nero did the same just afterwards, I could hear the drive doeing so

Ah same brand and type of disc but burned at slower speed of 8X (had to be 8X cos of write strategies listed 4X - 8x - 16X) as in disc info tab in Nero CD-DVD Speed... Or could I even have tried 12X ???
Maybe I will try that later on... Or is it not advisable to do so ?

Seems that the disc is now recognised in my BEnQ DW1620 and the scan is very good I think...
What u guys recommend ? So it means I should stay at 8X or 12X burn speeds cos of my slower PC (see sig) or not ???

It seems the drive is behaving normally and is not faulty, as I might have suspected before... So the replacement drive does it jobs accurately, is it not ?

Commensts are highly appreciated !

Hey mindwarper.........I've got a gut feeling that your power supply may be to low of wattage. Check and see what it's rated for. Your first BenQ may not of been faulty. BigMike7 had one that he thought was bad, sent it back for a refund and then found out it was his power supply. These Q's are a little power hungry and with your system being old, I'm wondering if you could be in the same boat. Check it out and let us know what the rating is of your PS. Also maybe crossg or zevia can put their 2 cents in or any of the other senior members. By the way my 1620 burns MCC004 very good at 16X although there is a large difference in quality between 12X and 16X with TY's. But I know that crossg, zevia and pinto have all had some excellent burns at 16X along with some other members.

Just in case it might be a power supply, check here to add up the power requirements in your machine. It was recommended by Chas, and I've used it and found it to be pretty accurate.

Hi there guys
I have opened my case and checked the folowing details of my PSU...
  • Brand: Linkworld
  • Model and Wattage: LPH6-300WP (300W)
  • +3.3V Line Amperage: 15A
  • +5V Line Amperage: 32A
  • -5V Line Amperage: 0.5A
  • +12V Line Amperage: 12A
  • -12V Line Amperage: 0.8A
  • +5VSB Line Amperage: 2A
  • +3.3V and +5V Line combined Max Output: 160W
  • Total Power extended: 300W Maximum

@Quema34: I've checked the link u provided and according to that calculation over there my system needs 247W of power so my PSU should be good...
But u might be right it would not hurt if I change the PSU now... And would be nice if I get one that makes me happy for a future upgrade to Athlon X2 CPU system...
But for now I will keep my system as it is, cos I do not have such a big budget as a student.

OK now something else now...
I have burned the same type of disc, but now at 12X speed...
  • Drive & FW used: BenQ DW1620 B7W9 RPC1 speedpatched REPLACEMENT drive (see also my Signature)
  • Media used: Verbatim DVD+R 16X Certified
  • MID (Media Code ID): MCC 004
  • WOPC: On
  • Burn Speed: 12X

OK I am very satisfied with the burn time and the scan of the disc burned
What do u guys think of it ???
So do u guys really think I should stick to a burn speed of max. 12X ???
I do not really mind that much since burn times around 6-7 minutes for DVD+R is fairly acceptable to me...
OK 16X would be completed faster, but if that gives me errors/glitches then I am willing to sacrifice a bit...

Comments on that and on the disc burned and its quality scan is highly apreciated as always !

Indeed that's what I thought also, but now I have a question for you guys...

Shall I try to burn the Verbatim MCC004 again at 16X but now with WOPC off, or is that not a wise thing to do ?
I am going to do several more burns now with Sony DVD+R and Plextor DVD+R media...

Is it typical for Sony media to have a rising slope of PIE errors towards the end of the disc ? Just wondering...

It's normal for any kind of media, not only Sony. There are a couple of reason that I can think of:
- The dye is not evenly spreaded (from the inner to outer) during manufacturing process. This can also happen to quality media.
- In high speed burning especially at 16x (and 40-52x for CD-R), the higher write speed is at the end of the disk, thus this part may produce more errors.

From my TYG02 burns, I've noticed turning WOPC off helps smooth out the PIE curve when burning at 8x-12x. There are some quirks with B7V9 and B7W9, but it does make a noticeable difference for that particular media when I turn WOPC off. Just an FYI. ( btw, not all media/MID's respond accordingly ... so, try and try again to see what works best with your setup )

-Yep, Zevia, I've read that's always a possibility, regardless of media.
- this is also likely, exactly because of the speed increase (especially when the media doesn't really support that higher speed burning at the end; this is kind of illustrated by the TE results on certain media I've tested on my 716a or under QSuite 2.0 with my BenQ1640: they don't get a high spike in the beginning or middle, but where they fail the test at that simulated speed is always around the last .5 gb that I've noticed).

OK one more scan...
  • Drive & FW used: BenQ DW1620 B7W9 RPC1 speedpatched REPLACEMENT drive (see also my Signature)
  • Media used: Plextor DVD-R 8X Certified
  • MID (Media Code ID): TYG02
  • WOPC: Off
  • Burn Speed: 8X

here again a good scan, jeehaaa
I am a happy man again
I had to turn off WOPC (with Quikee WOPC tool 1.3.0) on this Plextor brand DVD-R media cos in 2 earlier tries with media from the same batch (cardboard box), gave me write errors just as the moment 8X writing speed is attained with WOPC enabled... So therefore WOPC is off

OK I have to apologize for the fact that I forgot to make a image (PNG) of the create data disk part in nero with WOPC off...

But here's the image of the scan...
Will do another test burn with the same media and will include the create data disk image then, OK ?
I find it curious that there is no single PIF error in the first 1.0GB of the scan, but the scan is worth to be put in the hall of fame if it were not hte bunch of PIF errors around 3.6GB to 4.0GB, is it not ?
MayB I am going to try something funny.. I am going to do a new scan tomorrow and on that particular point I will temporarily enable WOPC

OK let me know what u guys and gals decide what this media gives on the DW1620...
So this is clearly a brand and type of media that needs WOPC off, don't u guys think the same here ???

[QUOTE=mindwarper]OK one more scan...
  • Drive & FW used: BenQ DW1620 B7W9 RPC1 speedpatched REPLACEMENT drive (see also my Signature)
  • Media used: Plextor DVD-R 8X Certified
  • MID (Media Code ID): TYG02
  • WOPC: Off
  • Burn Speed: 8X

here again a good scan, jeehaaa
I am a happy man again

Notice the two drops that was using Quikee's WOPC Tool 1.3.0 of temporarily enabling WOPC, which did not affect burn uality much, but in future when burning to this brand and type of media I will keep WOPC off throughout the whole burn process

Wow a better scan than previous one... What a difference that makes that turning off of WOPC, now I will keep my last DVD-R of that brand of the box for other purposes, as it has proved its worth to me now
I am convinced...

I was already very happy with Verbatims (MCC MIDs), but TY is very very good indeed with my DW1620
Now, are there other well known and known quality brands of media with TY (Tayo Yuden) MIDs for both DVD+R and DVD-R which I could buy here in Netherlands, Belgium and/or Germany, cos that is the region I live in ???
I mean shops like Computer specilaist shops, Media Markt, Dynabyte, Dixons, etc...
Or is there a good place to get them from via the internet as well ???
It is hard to find it here around where I live, so any help would be appreciated...

@mindwarper. Can't argue with burns like that. The link in this post might help you get some of that media in your part of the world. Alexnoe is a pretty knowledgable guy so I doubt he would give out a link unless it was reputable. Good luck.
