You may want to pick up some OEM's. I have the same problem with my branded TDK's and Fuji T02's. If your in the states try rima.com or supermediastore.com. Don't know if their still running it but shop4tech had a special on G02's for around .22ea. delivered. Satch a.k.a. BigMike7 got in on some. He called me today and said they were great. Just an FYI for ya.

Sportfish > Congrats on the 99%. I've burned 500+ discs with my 2 1620's and never got a 99%. I didn't scan all of them so i might have and don't know it.

Thanks 56....... Hang in there. I burnt well over 500 before I finally found this one. But IMO crossg still has me beet by a mile cuz he's gotten them off of branded TY's ie. Fuji. Mine are OEM's. I've not come close with my Fuji's or TDK branded TY's. Closest was 97. Maybe I just need to get this thing settled into 99 with the OEM's and then maybe they'll find there way to the Fuji's. Ya you betcha.

In my quest to figure out why my Dash R media gets stuck at writing at 8x I stumbled onto this. After the disc is burned at 8x when set for 12x I happened to check DVD Identifier and got this:
Code:
* INFO : Drive = BENQ DVD DD DW1620 [FW B7V9]
** INFO : Write Capabilities = DVD+R DVD+R-DL DVD+RW
** INFO : Write Capabilities = DVD-R DVD-RW
** INFO : Disc = [DVD-R:TYG02]
** INFO : Reference Speed : 1x DVD = 1385 kBps
** INFO : An Writeable Disc Is Recommended For Accurate Results
** INFO : Write Speeds (Supported By This Drive On This Disc) Listed Below

Descriptor #3 = 5540 kBps ( 4.00x) - [CLV/Non-Pure CAV]

Descriptor #3 = 5540 kBps ( 4.00x) - [CLV/Non-Pure CAV]
Descriptor #4 = 3324 kBps ( 2.40x) - [CLV/Non-Pure CAV]
No 12x???
Before the burn I checked and had this:
Code:
** INFO : Drive = BENQ DVD DD DW1620 [FW B7V9]
** INFO : Write Capabilities = DVD+R DVD+R-DL DVD+RW
** INFO : Write Capabilities = DVD-R DVD-RW
** INFO : Disc = [DVD-R:TYG02]

Descriptor #3 = 11080 kBps ( 8.00x) - [CLV/Non-Pure CAV]
Descriptor #4 = 5540 kBps ( 4.00x) - [CLV/Non-Pure CAV]
Descriptor #5 = 3324 kBps ( 2.40x) - [CLV/Non-Pure CAV]

** INFO : MODE SENSE Write Speed Descriptor(s) [Legacy Command]

Descriptor #3 = 11080 kBps ( 8.00x) - [CLV/Non-Pure CAV]
Descriptor #4 = 5540 kBps ( 4.00x) - [CLV/Non-Pure CAV]
Descriptor #5 = 3324 kBps ( 2.40x) - [CLV/Non-Pure CAV]
Notice that 12x Descriptor is missing after the burn. Anyone have any ideas?? (Please). I know older FW works OK but I prefer to run the latest. BTW. Both my 1620 do the same thing.

@crossg, this kinda behaviour with dash media is not new. I had the same problem in beginning with 1620's U9 firmware
Unfortunately a never got a clue what was going on.
Note. With U9 firmware BenQ introduced an "Improve WOPC algorithm".

To me it looks like (pre recorded) 12x write strategy burning "option" information area (on dash media) gets messed up when the drive "test"-burns in calibration area (sectors 0-31), but sofar this is only one of many hypothesis from my side...
Compare also with interesting findings (regarding plus media) by ala42 for 1625 firmwares here.

Interesting pinto 2 thx for the links. Guess I will try to fire off a semi intelligent E mail to BenQ Tech support (if they have one) and link these links to it. Not the end of the world but very frustrating. They must know about the glitch but as they say the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Guess I will add it to the Suggestions to BenQ thread as well.

@pinto 2 Just an update. Flashed both 1620's back to stock B7T9 and after restart made two more coasters with TYG02, both writers took forever to write the Lead in then proceeded to burn at 1.05x. I give up. Time to call an Exorcist for my puter.

YUDEN000 T02 Fujifilm DVD+R 8x.
Both BenQ 1620's B7V9 FW.
Burned @12x.

Hehe Ths is way beyond me!! I am thinking something is messed in my FW chips and it wont overwrite properly. Probably flashed 10 times yesterday trying to get it to write at 12x. The 1.05x with B7T9 is even more puzzling. Reset learned media or EEPROM tool (Lite On) would be nice for troubleshooting.

Have you tried running with just one of the 1620s connected? Does it read at full speed? Sorry if you already mentioned these...

No I haven't both are on different IDE Channels but you may be on to something. Going to move them both to Primary Master one at a time and flash them in safe mode. Have been flashing them as Primary slave and Secondary slave so it may be worth a try. Yes both drives read at top speed. Thx.

Well that didn't work although it's no big surprise.
Maxell RG03 tried at 12x burned at 8x. Got sick of wasting TYG02 but don't mind wasting this stuff. Back to testing.

crossg, no need to reflash many times, my trick is restart the pc and it will burn at chosen speed again.

Thx zevia. You had mentioned before somewhere in this forum that a restart works for you with this problem. Unfortunatly it doesn't work with mine. When it gets stuck writing at 8x it stays no mater what I have tried. My computer gets shut down every night so at least that is not working for me. Just filled out a long winded report to BenQ about this and what I have found so far and politely asked them to look into this issue. Probably went right on their ignore list but it may be worth the effort.
