YUDEN000 T02 Fujifilm DVD+R 8x.
BenQ DW1620. B7V9 FW.
Decided to see what kind of variation there was between the same media with different Batch numbers. First burn is Batch 1133 second is 1159
Burned @16x WOPC on. Think I like the 59 burn better as there is only 1 high PIF spike.

Hello

When getting acceptable PI and PO scans, does that mean the dvd will last a long time without getting any corrupted data on it? Is it the same regardless of the media as long as it has good scans?

Thanks

No. Depends on the media.. even if you have low PIE/PIF on a crappy disc it still might become unreadable after 6 months. =)

Hey matrix......... Great question. @ Quickee, then if those don't have any bearing on the longevity of a disc, what does? Is there a way to tell what disc's will last you longer or is it just a crap shoot where one just hopes that a better name ie. TY, will hold up the longest?

Thanks for the reply's

Like Sportfish said, how can you tell? I buy verbatim media all the time just to make sure but if I could save a bit of money somewhere I would like to
I used to buy datawrite greys but I was a bit worried they would become unreadable (prodiscF01 dye) but I liked the price

A scan only tells you how much errors (correctable or uncorrectable) occured during reading the disc and how severe those errors are. It doesn't tell you that the disc will last longer but you can assume that a disc with low error level has a good dye.. so you can assume it will last longer. However there can be an exception.

Usually a good scan after a burn is only a beginning.. you can't scan a disc and say it will last.. you have to scan it again after a period of time to see how much the disc has degraded.. and then again after a period of time... If you see the disc has degraded alot it's better to reburn it again. This way you avoid loosing the data.

For the information.. I scanned a 1.5 year old RICOHJPNR01 a while ago.. the PIE/PIF level was very high and Philips also reported some POE. So I reburned the disc as it still was readable in my drive to avoid data loss. I also have some RICOHJPNR00 burned also around 1.5 years ago.. but this discs are still good.. they have PIF total < 300 and PIE total < 10000 so they are still as good as new.. and even better than some discs I burn and scan today. =)

Thanks for the information Quikee . In a way, no media can be trusted but if you scan it every so often you can make sure you don't lose your data.

Agree with Quikee. Burned a bunch of RitekG05 about 6 months ago and the scans at the time were OK but now the discs are pixelating and freezing on my stand alone players, so I rescanned some discs and the scans are really bad! I am ripping and re burning on better media, TY and Verb. Hope they last longer.

Uh Oh. Most of my discs are RicohjpnR01's burned with my LiteOn 832S, until I got my BenQ 1620. Now I'm using RicohjpnR02's (burning at 12x). Should I be worried about disc life?

I hope not... check the oldest RICOHJPNR01 disc you've got and look if the disc is still good or not. I never had good experience with this discs.. first I bought this then still expensive discs and they almost became unreadable in a 1.5 year.. then the second time I bought them I got a bad batch.. then I stopped buying them. =) However I still buy RICOHJPNR02 and the scans are good but don't trust them with importaint data... I only use them for backups and such things. =)

Mostly I burn backups of movies to +R media.
For backing up data I use +RW so I can update.
Thanks Quikee, I'll take your advice and check some of my older discs. None are too old - I only got my first burner a little over a year ago.

Well here is another set of Moser Baer MBIPG101R04 that is a surprise to me. The surprise is that it's Memorex branded and without WOPC, it's better than the Imation brand above. Once again these are 12X burns with and without WOPC enabled. 1st is WOPC off, 2nd will be on. Looks like Memorex is finally trying to get a little wiser.

Hehe sportfish. Don't think it's the drives. Burned 2 QS 99's with my Plextor today with this media and once in a while this stuff even gives me a 99 on the Nec 3520, not often though. I will definatly be buying more OEM TYG02.

Yes if I write both medias @12x I can get 99's quite often with the BenQ, but I do have a batch of TY02 (1133) that I have never seen better than 97. I have a about a hundred (1159) that write very well though. Just about like playing the lottery with media nowadays.

I tried my first burn on my new EW1621 (burnt an iso using dvd decryptor at 8x).
Disk was a traxdata 8x (RITEK-R03-002) dvd+r bought at the flea market... The result looks good to me - what do you think?
Scan was done at 8x.
