Anyone tested some DVD+R media ID MBIPG101-R04 ??? I can buy 25 pack spindle at futureshop for 14.99$ (Memorex brand), they are rated 8x. The 4x memorex are at the same price and media ID is RICOHJPN-R01.

I would be curious to see some scan of the first one. Please let me know

I thought I saw a scan of that media MBIPG101-R04 posted on another forum here while browsing around but its the R03 not the R04 but it "might" be indicative of how it burns and the 1620 BT79 burns the MBIPG101-R03 at 12x rather well from the screenshot.

Here's a couple of scans of -R 8x Datawrite Classic (grey) FUJIFILM03.

QScan does not recommend that these disks be written at 8x despite their 8x rating. And sure enough, the 1620 B7T9 does NOT like them to be writen at that speed.

I don't think I'll be buying any more of these disks.

I always shrink my backups to 4350 Mb as I don't trust any disk to write completely without problem, so I was surprised to see just how poor these disks are with my BenQ.

I have also scanned the disks at different speeds to see how this affects the results.

Scan 1: Write 8x, scan 8x
Scan 2: Write 8x, scan 4x
Scan 3: Write 4x, scan 8x
Scan 4: Write 4x, scan 4x

Could somebody explain why I get sometimes, not always, tranfert rate tests going up to 16X ?

I thought the drive was limited to 8X on DVDR in this test.

Thus is a Fuji (TY G01) burnt 4X in a NEC.

I tried some other discs burnt in the Benq and the curve would not go over 8X.

[QUOTE=DVD_ADDICT]I did try the B7TP firmware with the SONY D11 8X DVD+R media which resulted in crappy scans so I switched back to the B7P9 firmware.

DVD_ADDICT, so the B7P9 firmware is MUCH BETTER for Sony media than B7T9? I also have Sony DVD+RW media and the same thing happens as well -- crappy scans with very good media. I would hate for these discs to go to waste since I do have (2) spindles of +R and (1) spindle of +RW.

Yes for me the B7P9 firmware has better scans with the Sony DVD+R media than the B7TP firmware. I don't have any Sony DVD+RW media to test out.

OK thx for the reply DVD_ADDICT. I will downgrade to the B7P9 firmware in order to use the Sony +R/+RW media.

Two BenQ 8x DVD+R from a 25 pcs. cakebox (DAXON AZ2), burned at 8x... I don't think I'll try to overspeed these... Plus, a Verbatim 8x DVD+R from a 25 pcs. cakebox (MCC 003), burned at 8x, for comparison.
Cheers, FW

Memorex+ at Future Shop is now CMC as opposed to being RICOHJPN, the scans appear good but how's the life...

And a few other scans... More BenQ-branded 8x DVD+R DAXON AZ2 from the same cakebox, burned at 8x, and two TDK 8x DVD-R from a 25 pcs. cakebox (TTG02), burned at 8x. I burned the TDKs at an earlier time, so they were not burned with the same firmware as the others... probably B7P9. I think the Daxon wouldn't look so bad if they didn't have that high bump at the beginning... could this be caused by the "native" firmware settings before WOPC kicks in?

Hey Gang, I just got a 1620 and 200 BenQ Branded +R disc.
Here's a scan of the daxon AZ2 @ 12 speed, The first few didn't look as nice but the Disk Quality score is the same. At 34 cents a disc I'm going to grab another 200

Sorry guys, I have to figure out how to reduce the images size

Sorry about the earlier post (my first post here) So I bought some BenQ +R Daxon AZ2 and have been burning these at 12 speed, this image is typical of the last 20 disc. Early in the spindle I was getting high peaks near the end (up to 180) but the Disc Quality score (don't know if it means much but plays movies perfectly) never fell below 93. I originally bought these for my Litey 1633s and the scans are near identical but they burn at 6 speed max. This movie took 6:10 to burn (average out of 5) The disc are definitly better down the stack.

Wow, nice scan, esp. for a 12x overspeed. I also see improvements further down the stack, see below... maybe the drive has to warm up to the media. Also included is a scan of a Ricoh 4x DVD+RW, jewelcase (RICOHJPN W11), burned at 4x. Second time this disc was burned. Note the absence of any problems when the file manager tried to access the drive during the burn process at about 8% progress.
Cheers, FW

I just tried to play a RitekG04 disc. About half way thru the movie became unwatchable. Pixels and freezing and finally jumped to beginning of movie. This disc was burned about a month ago on a Liteon 851S with Nero 6.6. I have recently moved "from the dark side" to a Benq 1620 . So I decided to run a Nero disc quality test on it. While it was not the best , it was certainly not what I would have considered a bad result. Pi max about 150 and PIF 6, Jitter max 14.4 and score 97. But the disc is NO GOOD! Am I reading the information incorrectly?

Yeiipiii, finally a burn in less then 6mins, 5:58 to be precise.

MID: SONY08D1
Brand: Sony juwelcase, Made in Taiwan
Type: DVD-R 8x
Write speed: 16x
Written as: create data disc
Burntime: 5:58
Firmware: BenQ B7T9
Compare with my burn on same media when on firmware B7P9.

Comment. Upgraded to latest firmware... Not sure if the burn quality is better because these discs can vary in quality, but still a great burn.
