Yes but I never use nrg to post a full burn.

At the very end burning speed is over 20 MB/s so 20 MB takes just about 1 second to burn.
*cough.cough*
If you burn another 20mb, it doesnt means that you will burn that particular data at the end of the disk.

If you burn a data file and add 20MB of data, what if the data is inserted at the beginning of the disk? then it will burn @6.7x. What if at the middle of the disk or in the middle of the ISO?
If you burn an ISO movie, the 20mb data is "dissolved" across the whole ISO when you render/compress the movie. So IMO, the correct method to calculate is by using the average speed, not the max 16x.

Hehe.. if you add 20 MB of data at the beginning it will burn @6.7x... but the rest will therefor burn faster... also if you add 20 MB at the middle the rest will also burn faster. Because of this and because the data is transparent for the burner... the actual speed to complete additional 20 MB is always the average speed or the area from last speed of full disc-20MB and full disc. So in this case I guess avg. around ~15.7x.

Actually you can't calculate the section without knowing the speed samples from full disc-20MB and full disc.. as the graph is not linear... but you could approximate using this function.. and error wouldn't be significant I think. So you can calculate (speed at full disc-20MB)+(speed at full disc)/2... now you have the average speed and you just have to extract the time. =)

Man, this is getting complicated...

*Scratching my head*, I think I have to read up my math.

BTW, why not just state a simple standard. A full disc "is" min. 4481MB for +R´s (plus) and min. 4489MB for -R´s (dash).

If we want simple, a full disk *must* be burn with create data disk.
If you render to .nrg, it may lack 10MB, 1MB or 10 Kilobytes. Still not a full disk.

LOL Quikee2, you're too advanced... how about we just calculate it base on average speed please

Well.. the best thing is that a result with non full disc is invalid.. as you can only aproximate the additional time for a non full disc. =)

- Okay, I burn my .nrg images with Nero CD/DVD Speed...
CD Speed counts in seconds, so you will never notice a variation of 1 or 2MB when burning at 12 or 16x speed.

- Example, my posted "TempImage.nrg" (actually image of a movie) is 4 699 652 252 bytes in size. This is equal to ~4481,9MB, well over the min. size I proposed above.

zevia, (storage) size; 4481MB is 4481MB, no matter what kind of file(-s) we are using...

Yeah, I can agree on that.

But I fear many of our members will be "locked out" from posting, if they can't afford "wasting" media. And I certainly don't want $$ to decide if members can participate or not in this thread.

sorry to disagree, but 4481MB shown in Nero Quality Scan can be 4480.50MB or 4481.49MB in real figures...

Okay, okay, how about if Nero Quality Scan shows 4482MB if you burn .nrg then it's "full burn" (still with " " on it)

Edit: "full burn" for DVD+R 4482MB, DVD-R 4489MB.

MID: MCC004
Brand: Verbatim DLP PhotoPrint (MIT)
Type: DVD+R 16x rated
Burned with: Nero CD/DVD Speed, Create Data Disc
Burned at: 16x (QSuite scan)
Burntime: 5:22
Booktype: DVD-ROM
Firmware: B7U9 WOPC disabled

I get very consistent burns on this media. All burns near to 5:20 by a few seconds, but the QS doesn't look that good though...
Been burning backups of my movies at same speeds and they play back on every standalonene tested sofar without issues.
Also adding a one week "old" burn not posted before.

Ohh no, I wouldn't like to do that.

Are you saying I have the two "fastest" burns on this board...? This can't be true.

For all your great work and your kindness, I can give away one of my posts, because you are a real CD Freak.

Okay, lets post one of my slowests burns in a year or so...

MID: TYG01
Brand: Taiyo Yuden (GD000241)
Type: DVD-R 4x rated
Burned as: Nero Create Data Disc (image 4.38GB, movie)
Burned at: 4x speed (QSuite scan)
Burntime: 14:58
Firmware: B7U9 No_WOPC

Note. It's a shame we can't burn this good media faster then 4x. My NEC burns them at 8x on stock firmware.
Anyhow, it's safe to say, also you can burn them with WOPC disabled.
