Re: Philips DVD RW 8801 Firmware HELP!!!!! Thanks imkidd57 for moving this post to appropriate forum section and a warm welcome to Niecy. First of all Niecy try other media, preferable Verbatim DVD+R's. You could also flash your drive with BenQ DW1650 firmware. There are many threads covering this and here is one. Note, flashing drive with BenQ firmware will void your warranty.

Re: Philips DVD RW 8801 Firmware HELP!!!!! PLEASE HELP! I flashed the DVDRW Philips 8801 drive because it wasn't reading discs. It was showing every disc I inserted as blank. After reading much about it here, I flashed the firmware of the drive to the BenQ firmware. I followed the steps. Said it worked fine, but after I restarted hte PC, there is NO dvd/cd drive detected in BIOS OR device manager/my computer. I even tried connecting a whole different DVDrom drive, and it won't detect. Did I fry something else in my PC trying to do this? Now I have NO dvd drive that will work. IS there any way to redo this firmware change. Can I go back to the original firmware for the Philips 8801 drive. The PC is a Dell Dimension 3100. Please help! The drive won't even open now. And as I said, the extra drive I connected was not detected either. What do I do? Thanks!!

Re: Philips DVD RW 8801 Firmware HELP!!!!! Are you sure you have a DVD8801 and not a DVD8881? Did you try changing the IDE cable? Make sure it's an 80-wire.
