Geno, did you have some other programs running in the background on your computer when you did the transfer test? I used to get a lot of 'spikes' like that, until someone said the test will give the most accurate results when it's running by itself.

Actually I made these scans right now, navigating on the forum. I have some windows opened on my desktop, but nothing requiring too much CPU power (task manager says only 10% max of CPU use). I'll try to scan without too many applications running in background.

I think that it is because he is using a DVD-ROM LiteOn 165 as a reader, which is probably quite "picky" (and therefore definitely good for scanning, IMHO)... I have a 166S (currently not plugged in my rig) and it was quite hard to please it. But if he did it while browsing, maybe you are right.

Thanks, ET. I wasn't paying attention to his reader not being also the BenQ.

Disc:FujiFilm TY 02 DVD+R (8X)
Burner:BenQ1640 w/BSLB f/w
OS:On, SB:Activated, WOPC Disable
Burning speed approaching to full 12X
Burning time:5:56.

Can some explain what is going on here , the burned disc has passed CD Speed Quality Scan Test with %97 score and very low rate of PIE & PIF, then why on earth the same disc can't pass the "Transfer Rate " test and has some unreadable sector?.

BTW:the disc plays flawlessly in stand alond DVD player.

I've had the same thing happen recently as well.

In my case though, I can read the disc fine in a Lite-On 832S drive. (Though the overall numbers are completely different.)

I wondered if it had something to do with the fact that I was using a modified version of the firmware that had the read speed adjusted.

First, enable your "spell checker". And then...only one thread per question. I get more jitter if I drink too much coffee.

Zmmr, I can't tell you what's best, although perhaps my results can help you decide. In the one burn I used MCC003, I had SB, WOPC enabled, with Overspeed off (burned at rated 8x). Here's what I got:

PIE Avg./Max/Tot.: 3.42/11/34393
PIF Avg./Max/Tot.: 0.07/6/780
Jitter Avg./Max: 7.62%/9.1%
QS: 97

Can you copy the complete data from DVD to HDD or appear an error?

Yes, geno, I would ignore the single spike in the Liteon scan, as in general it would only be a problem IF you had multiple spikes just as high. However, I would feel good about that scan, since the Liteon reports much lower PIF than the BenQ scan. Of course, it would be interesting to scan it again in the Liteon, but using KProbe to gather the scan results.

This is a good burn, considering CMC MAG E01 is 8x rated media. It will be interesting to see how another 2 burns would be with Solidburn enabled at 16x. Of course, I suspect this mid would likely give far better results at 12x.

It's not an isolated case either, after getting my 1640 and scanning some of my Pioneer 108 TY T02 12x burns with "impressive" results, I pulled out a couple of old burns done on a BTC 1008 (first burner before the NEC 2500 & Pioneer) on lousy CMC MAG and Opto disc media. One got a 95 "Quality" score but fails with a CRC error after huge speed drops on a speed hacked LiteOn 166s. At very low speeds, it's barely readable in the 166S.

You might try rescanning that last burn (at least the last 25%) at 4x in the 1640. I saw considerably worse results when I did on the poor burns although it doesn't seem to have much effect on good burns that read at full speed in the 166S.

I know I'm in the minority here but my only PIE/PIF scans that always correlate well with disc readabilty are from my AOPEN 1648 Chameleon at max speed. They always look much worse than the 1640 scans, even on good burns, but get a LOT worse on discs that have poor read curves. The speed hacked 166S remains my gold standard though. Anything that has a decent read curve in it works flawlessly in the BENQ 1640, AOPEN 1648, LiteOn 16P9S and any standalone I've tried (LOTS).

...crawling into my flame resistant suit now...

Mike
The lack of discussion about how well PIE?PIF scans correlate with actual readabilty always amazes me. It's like a religion whose beliefs may not be questioned.

In an attempt to be on topic...

FujiFilm TY T02
1640 BLSB
SB, OS = ON
WOPC = OFF
12x Burn (6:03) w DVD Decryptor
Quality = 99
Total PIF = 72

More importantly, it gets a smooth read curve in a 14x speed hacked LieOn 166S

Heheh, I am doing some 16x test burns in troubleshooting CD-DVD Speed issues. So here are more 16x burns for your enjoyment, I don't think any other burner can do this media as well at 16x so far or heck, 16x at all.

You can refer to the corresponding burn graphs for the discs in this other thread,

Heheh, just found this grandfather fugly purple label Mitsubishi 2x DVD-R (went to 8x, a 4 times overspeed) today in my cupboard and burned it.

Checked the media strat dump for BSLB and the above 2x -R MID, MCC00RG200, isn't in the MID table so it's all SolidBurn at work doing the overspeeding burn. Truly impressive!
