It will be great if I can copy the writing strategy of RICOHJPNR01 from BSGB to the latest firmware BSMB.
This topic has been covered in lenght, just take your time and read thru this thread from page 1.

Use import function in MCSE. All you need is a disc with RICOHJPN-R01 MID.
Easy like that. No need to mess with other firmware.

I fully understand how to copy the Media ID using programs like DVD Identifier. Please correct me if I'm wrong:

Every firmware has a built-in table that contains the ID of the media that the drive supports, together with the writing strategy for each media.

What MCSE can do:
1. In a table entry, change the Media ID, either manually or by importing from programs like DVD Identifier
2. In a table entry, change the writing strategy to that for another Media ID

What MCSE can't do:
1. Add a new table entry (i.e. add a new Media ID)
2. Add a new writing strategy
3. Import a writing strategy from another version of the firmware

Then what the Taiwanese author of BSMB-9 claimed is untrue. He definitely is using MCSE to modify the BSMB firmware, and he said that the writing strategy for RICOHJPNR01 was imported from BSGB, which is known to burn this media with very good result. From what ala42 said, it's impossible (as yet).

Although that Taiwanese author is so good as to share the finished product, which shows some improvements over the officical firmware for media like MCC002, YUDEN000T01, etc., he is unwilling to disclose what writing strategies are used for these modified media codes.

Using speedpatched BSMB, when I try to rip .ISOs with DVD Decrypt, the first layer goes great (11-12x), but when it switches to the second layer, the drive constantly speeds up and slows down (7-8x to 4-5x) every 5 secconds or so. It's a really annoying noise as the drive spins up and spins down.

anyone else having this issue? What can I do to remedy the situation?

Yes I have the same issue and I am coinvinced it has something to do with the system buffer but I also do not have an answer.

@ala42: Is there a reason why your tool does not support the external Benq 1621 47N9 firmware?

Welcome to cdfreaks
Your problem has nothing to do with MCSE, so it had been better to open a separate thread for it as the discussion does not belong here.
What exactly do you mean with 'When The Buffer Hits Max' ? Which buffer are you talking about ?
Check the DMA settings of your drive. After DMA is on, check the result of the Nero CD-DVD Speed burst transfer test, you need a disk with some data in the drive to run the test. It should display 23 MB/sec.

I have the same problem with you. I think it is caused by the Hard Drive or the IDE controler that just can't keep up with the speed of 1620. I had this problem with my P3 733 VIA Apollo Pro 133 and i still have it with my P4 2.8 VIA P4X266A. Maybe it has something to do with VIA IDE controlers (in my case since you have an Intel 810 based M/B).

MAYHEMBURN, defrag your HDD to start with.

Your HDD is small (40GB), slow 5400rpm's and has only 1MB catche. Don't expect any wonders.
RiTEKG05 media also vary a lot in quality so I suggest you to choose some high quality DVD+R's next time.

Get a new, bigger HDD and better media than I can ensure you things will be working much better.

BTW, please don't use CAPITAL letters.
Because your problem has nothing to do with MCSE you better start a new thread if you need more help.

As I have read through every page of this thread, I noticed the problem a few were having with MCSE edited FW rip patch and the 1640 based hardware.. well I decided to check this out for my self in DVDdecrypter and at the layer change I got the slowdown to 2.5 back up to 5x max and back down with noises coming from the drive. Should I return this to best buy and try another? for 99$ I should be able to get a drive that rips dvd's. My 1625 has no problems with the patch and I have scans below to show.. this make me very unconfortable. And if I do take it back tomorrow should I get the plextor 740 instead? or try another sony-810A (benQ not avail here..))
These scans were done using a dvd-9 pressed.
The last scan was with stock BEFB on the 1640...
Also did a single layer DVD+R TYT02 speed scan in each drive with same disk..
The last 2 at bottom the BEFB FW was rip-patched.
(note: both drives as master on seperate chanels.)

For the benq dw1620 i modified the b7w9 firmware:

I unchecked the 8x from ritek r02 clicked the set speed button and saved.

Then I flashed my drive rebooted, winXP picked up my drive again, but nero hangs at 1% burning and doesn't write at all. Did I do something wrong or is there an other way to make 4X the default writing speed for ritek r02?

Why not simply set the record speed with your recording software?

Hey guys, so from my scans post above about the riplockpatch, You think I should return for another sony-dru-810A, or Plextor 740A? either way I will be flashing it to BenQ FW. I would really appreciate some sugestions as Iv'e seen replacement drives for other people work with riplock patch without that speed dropout to 2.0x etc. when the disc reaches 50% of the rip.
and the noises bug me.. Since the plex and sony are the same price, im also concerned which one probaly has better QC. I have one more day to return it to best buy... and I also am trying to figure out if there is a batch code on the UPC of the box so I can get the latest build. I just want to get a good drive. As you can see from the above scan with BEFB riplock patch I got an error on second layer it was so bad,,, where the 1625 riplock patch had no probs at all with same pressed disc.. or maybe I should just pick up the NEC 3550a since the 1625 is a very good reader? I just want the best write quality with 8x Dual/Double layer burning. 1625 can scan fine I believe...
Thanx in advance guys...

That's what i do all the time, but if it was possible i would prefer it as standard , just like i have my default booktype settings. So i can't occasionally forget one of my settings. So does anybody know if it's possible or not?
