| if anyone had a problem recieving the emails with the files please let me know I will resend them! also for anyone else that might like to have these files below are the instructions that HP sent me. I have not rechanged the names back to .saf. So you shouldn't have to do the steps that say rename them to .exe just send me a message and I will send the files to you! I really hope they work for everyone that recieves them! I have been having alot of trouble with my drive lately, I had to uninstall the controllers and let xp reinstall them but I have burnt 2 dvd's since upgrade, flash and reinstaller controller and they worked fine so far GOOD LUCK ALL |

| jake8131, I see you achieved only a 8x speed burn with the "CMC MAG. AE1"-media with the new fw. In post #30 of this thread this media is listed as 12x speed capable. So it seems that the firmware still needs some work from a guru like ala42. |
| I just mailed the firmware ES04.CVT-file and flasher-program to the email-contact given on http://www.rpc1.org/ and asked for putting it on their site. Maybe you will find it there soon.

| RICOH R03-04 non printable@16x HP640 ES04. Very slow. Not a great burn but passes Transfer test ok. |
| Well I flashed the new firmware. MCC 003 and YUDEN T02 will still only burn at 8x. So it seems the higher speeds are still locked. |

| i bought the Hp 640i, it is a Benq and looks identical to the pic posted by Rick above. I have been having some issues as of lately. Never any issues burning, but when reading some DVD's no matter what program I use i am getting erros, mostly CRC errors. My drive is identified as being "born on" 5-8-05, and I am running the latest firmware JS04. I am really not sure what is causing it, but it seems to be only when trying to read DVD's with software that is capable of editing/decrypting/encoding such as DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Clone DVD, etc......playback via WMP or Nero Showtime never gives any issues. I am thinking that some of the more recent DVD's have some sort of copy protection that causes trouble with the reading of a drive once it realizes you may be about to try to copy/edit? |
